I think the remove of the alcantara dash from PUP was very telling. I'd bet they are just waiting to work through the current supply of a particular version of the dash, doors, etc. Once they are on the last few, they'll announce the long awaited interior upgrade.

No Alcántara? A shame because the regular dash looks sloppy on a loaner if you have the Alcántara, leather, and Alcántara roof on your own car

Considering there's no engine, it's a noisy car above 40 mph speeds. Noise is one of those massively overlooked things that contributes to driver fatigue - it's hugely tiring to listen to a constant background noise.

You live in London and you can drive above 40?

You, sir are a Motoring God!

I wish they'd just make it a whole lot quieter. Considering there's no engine, it's a noisy car above 40 mph speeds. Noise is one of those massively overlooked things that contributes to driver fatigue - it's hugely tiring to listen to a constant background noise.

Agreed. Of all the aspects of the car that feel as if they could have been done better, that is one of the primary ones for me. It is not too bad, but it is noticeable and could be done better. Personally, i suspect the frameless windows are one major source of the noise.

Since the X and 3 both have door pockets, I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the S soon. Not that I miss them. Some people that I give a ride to have a habit of leaving dirty tissues and other trash in the door pockets. I never used the door pockets in my old car so I don't miss them in my S.

Just saw this one Reddit.
Tesla — Model S Fixed Glass Roof Sunshade
To me this really highlights the shortcomings of the Model S. In a car that costs $70k and up to twice as much you have to play around with this flimsy thing that looks like some after market solution, when every other luxury car has it integrated. And really not just luxury or premium cars, but cars for half the price. This is what I think Tesla really needs to work on. Not some 1000 zone massage seats, but these basics.

Actually, it was pretty clear from the conversation he meant luxury. However, of course, high end Mercedes have things like HUD (S Class), Magic Sky Control, etc so, sure, more gizmos also counts.

Just a detail: even Model 3 sized premium ICE cars have HUDs, so not definitely just the S Class type of car sizes.

Doubt there will be any redesigns on the S any time soon.... They just did it last year, the year prior they did the X, they've got the 3 coming out (so no design work has been done on the S since last year), they still have the Y and Semi coming out, and then it will be time to update the X again, then the S. And all of that assumes no other new product coming out.... my guess is that their design team has their hands full with the pipeline for the next several years.

I predict that next year model S will get the "spaceship" steering system that was planned for the model three, but dropped after it became apparent that the model three was stealing sales from the model S.

Personally, I have no interest in paying for "luxury" features, and I certainly don't want to give up range or performance for them. I commend Tesla for having a vision and sticking to it. People complaining about the lack of luxury features want something that Tesla doesn't make.

Spot on !!

Like everything in life, it sensory adaptation

Once you live in a big house it is hard to go back to a condo

Once you are used to living on 100K salary, it's hard to go back to 70k

Same with Model 3. It will be lacking on a lot of this. The screen might be more sluggish in response or no auto presenting door or lack of room or scale down quality interior or ....

I agree. In fact, the Tesla person I met asked me to create a list to send to him, this was on my list. Feel free to post other suggestions, and I will forward alone.

Another question is though, does anyone really like HUDs? I'm not a big fan. I prefer a nice sharp instrument cluster display like the one in the Model S. I feel the HUDs need to be bigger and more relevant. The current one like in the S class is kind of gimmicky IMHO

Audi A4 also has a great graphical instrument cluster to go with its HUD unlike a Model 3. ;)

But seriously I think an AR HUD holds great potential...

@JonMc Hope they simply make Alcantara standard.

Alcantara doesn't wear as well. Specially anywhere with contact with skin, for example steering wheels on Lamborghini's with Alcantara. The oils in the hands cause the issue, I am not sure about Alcantara against jeans and such.

Let's be more realistic, then. A base Model S is basically a $40,000 car with a $30,000 battery strapped to it. If looking at it in this light, does the interior compare favorably to a $40,000 vehicle? There is no getting around the fact that we paid a premium to have such a big battery. In fact, the Model S battery once cost $45,000 to replace - that's the expected average cost of an entire Model 3.

In this respect, you cannot compare the Model S to any other car in its price class. You have to compare it to much lower priced cars.

Weird. I compare it to supercars that cost at least half a million. Incredibly inexpensive, isn't it? Mind-boggling really. I could spend $50K getting a truly luxurious custom interior, customized to my own personal body, and still have a bargain. And I could put five people in it instead of one and a half.

You're just cheap. And unimaginative.;)

That's not quite true. The S has a fully aluminum body, and there aren't a whole lot of those out there. Yes, they did it as a means to reduce weight, offsetting the half-ton battery. But, whatever the reason, it adds cost and it will reduce corrosion down the road.
