Nice delivery experience today

I think the positive experiences sometimes get hidden in the noise. (And I've certainly been guilty of complaining on TMC.) So here's a delivery story with zero complaints!

I took delivery this afternoon and it was quite pleasant. Communication was perfunctory but adequate pre-delivery. Delivery date was set about a week ago. I got my VIN last night, showed up at the designated appointment time today, and drove home in a new Model 3!

The San Diego delivery center has a lot of cars getting prepped right now. I walked around and they all look fantastic. No major cosmetic issues on any of them, and I'm pretty picky. Any paint defect I noticed was minor and will polish right out in a moment.

My car was practically flawless. I pointed out a couple very minor paint -- I hesitate to even call them defects -- tidbits and the detailing guy took care of it instantly. Fit and finish is better than I've had on any of my Teslas (this is our third!) There is one very tiny clear coat rough spot on an edge that can't be fixed without making it worse. I have trouble finding it again even when looking. I really can't come up with anything more serious than that. The doors hinges are stiff and won't close fully without a bit of extra effort. From past experience I know this is normal and they just need to be broken in a bit. By any reasonable metric, there's simply nothing wrong. Still, they said to keep an eye out over the next three days and bring it back if I find anything that needs to be addressed.

There were plenty of employees at their stations all very serious in their work. There were two other deliveries at the same time. The delivery center seemed to be set up to handle at least half a dozen deliveries simultaneously.

Oh, and it's a loaded P3D+. Holy mushrooms, the performance is insane. I was giggling all the way home!

Ok ok ok, one complaint: they were out of black hats with white logo.

Whee!

Great to hear a positive story for a change. So far it has been a good experience for me as well. My ISA and Delivery Specialist have both been great. Icing on the cake was that I was scheduled to take delivery on 9/24 and tonight I was told I can pickup early on 9/20 if I am available. Hoping all goes well at the Fremont Delivery Hub on Thursday.

Any specific checklist you used?
How much time did they give you to inspect the vehicle?

No specific checklist used. Frankly, the lists posted here seem a bit extreme to me, but to each his own, I guess. I just looked at the paint, panels, interior with an attention to detail. They gave me as much time as I needed, and polished a few things I pointed out inside and out. Really a nice experience all around. I never felt hurried.

The other guy getting delivery had an entire checklist with him and the Tesla people were very accommodating. As far as I could tell everything was ok there, too.

I'll add to that. My delivery was on Monday of this week. I'll admit, it was a bit rushed, as Tyson's Corner in VA is one of the most crowded delivery locations in the country. They didn't want me to stay long, and it was hard to inspect the paint since the car had been outdoors and it was POURING rain. Still, the car was in great shape, and the people at that location are always very nice. After the cursory inspection I was able to determine that I had no major exterior defects (thank god) and no defects I could see whatsoever on the inside, so I took the car straight to the aftermarket shop for some Chrome delete, PPF, Ceramic and Tint.

What I could tell:
Panel Gaps were great
only minor swirl marks on the paint. There were no dents, dings, deep scratches, scrapes, fisheyes, bubbles, or dirt under the coat. (For Red, that is very lucky)
Glass had no scratches, and roof glass lined up
Headlights lined up great
interior was flawless
no damage on the wheels
no noises or rattles on the way to the shop.

I was very pleased, except for being rushed, and the poor lighting in the service area. (I didn't get a standard delivery bay) Plus my initial drive home was in horrible weather so i couldn't really have fun with the car. Still, I have my Model S until the end of the month so I am not without a Tesla while I am waiting!

The shop cleaned up the car and did a very thorough paint inspection and said there was wet sanding here and there, and that they will do minor paint correction to get rid of all of the minor swirl marks and surface scratches prior to ceramic coating. They showed them to me. Nothing beyond surface damage though, which was fortunate.

Deliveries are not all bad people!
