NJ Driver's License Road Test using Model 3?

I had a similar experience with Edison MVC with an Audi which has a central e-brake, they are very to the book with the archaic rules.

What you can do is hire the services of some driving school, I think they charge around $150 in Edison area

Like everything else, some of these folks live in the past, and try a power play. Others have had no problem with it.

Sorry @pete_shaw. That really stinks. I can't even offer to help since we no longer own anything BUT Teslas. Best bet might be to talk to one of the driving school people waiting in line and offer them a couple bucks to borrow the car for the test... one of 'em will bite.

Thank you dmurphy. I really want to take this up with MVC but do not have the time and energy to fight it ( I guess that is why they operate like this... most people can't afford to do it). I guess I will just pay the driving school $125 to take him for a test in their car.

Couldn't you just go to a car rental place and rent something for a day or two? Or are there rules about ownership / using rentals / etc?

I am so pissed. We went for the test today at Edison facility and my son was denied the test because of "No central E Brake or H/Brake" in the M3. We showed the man how to use the brake and how easily accessible it is to the passenger but despite all logic, pleading with folded hands and requesting an opportunity to speak to a supervisor who may be able to make the decision on my request, nothing would work. I don't even know what to do now. The requirement is "A registered vehicle with a current inspection sticker and an insurance card. The vehicle must allow the Safety Specialist access to the emergency brake from the passenger seat. The Safety Specialist must be able to reach either the foot brake or parking brake.". This is clearly not a problem for Model 3.
Ughhhh.:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
I had to call a driving school for my son in NJ to get a car that would qualify. They picked him up and made him drive to the test and take the test with their car. $125 but it got the job done. None of my cars qualified either.

Update and good news: We took a chance and scheduled my son's road test appointment at Rahway, NJ location (instead of previous Edison, NJ location that didn't allow M3). Everything went fine - He was allowed to use M3 for the road test without any special steps (like covering the screen etc.) and definitely no fuss about using M3. He passed. Feel relieved. Still don't know why some locations give the kids hard time using Teslas for the road test. If we had to do it all over again, just to avoid the pain/frustration/waste of time, we would have simply booked a driving school service for the road test. Sharing this here for anyone else that finds themselves in a similar situation.

Congratulations to your son. And you for surviving teaching him

Congrats! This is what drives me nuts - there's NO reason for the Edison guy to have said no, other than some kind of bias.

Glad he passed without trouble!
