NJ EV rebate question

Hi all, I am about to place an order for a Model Y. Dumb question about the $5,000 credit. I heard it was cash on hood rebate. Wasn't sure what that meant, but someone mentioned Tesla will take off the $5,000 from the car when you buy it? Or do you have to submit an application to the state for the credit?

Thanks all

I bought my Tesla in NJ and did not get $5000 off at time of purchase.

You need three documents for application approval. You need your lending agreement, purchase agreement, bill of sale. I had an issue that the charges program needed a physical signature on the lending agreement. Tesla is claiming that it doesn't need to show the purchasers signature. Waiting on Tesla at this point.

Oh no. Keep me updated how it goes. Hopefully they can resolve it.

It's all square now. Seems that Tesla's esignature system had an issue when I completed all my documents. Tesla reached out to me and had me complete a new esignature. Completed and re-uploaded the document to the chargeup program and it was approved. It's actually an easy process. After your approval they will send an email stating they normally issue a check by mail within 30 days. Good luck in your process.

Thank you for the update. The 3 documents the state requires, do you get all of those when you pick up the vehicle?

I am planning on buying a Tesla and gifting it to my daughter in PA. Would like to get the transfer started as soon as I can since she needs a car.

That's a good question and one you should ask your delivery specialist. When I was at my delivery it was sign this paper and your on your way. All my documents were in the Tesla app online. Not on the Tesla phone app, the website.

Congrats on gifting the car to your daughter, she's going to be ecstatic.

Thank you for your comments. Really helpful. If you remember down the road, let me know when you get the check so I can estimate how long it would take. Planning on ordering in October for November delivery.

You may want read this if you are planning to sign over ownership after purchasing it:
https://chargeup.njcleanenergy.com/...p_New_Jersey_Phase_1_Terms_and_Conditions.pdf

Per the terms and conditions you must retain ownership of the vehicle for 36 months in order to qualify for the rebate. If you sign it over to your daughter and she is a resident of PA then you may be disqualified from the rebate.

Oh shoot. Thank you so much for showing me that. For some reason, I did not see that on the site at all.

Wondering if I can just keep the Model Y under my name for several years and just put her back on our insurance. Thing is, she'll be driving it in PA 99% of the time. Not sure if car insurance companies are ok with coverage if the person being covered has a residence in another state.

I have a question about the $55,000 upper limit. Is that the total price or do you have to add delivery charges (for example).

I'm about to order a Y and am interested in a blue, hitch, 20" wheel model. Price is 53.9 but add delivery and it's over 55,000.

thanks

You are fine. Just as long as the MSRP is below $55k. The other fees such as delivery/registration/order do not apply. When I purchased back in June (prior to the 3k drop ) my MSRP came out to $54,990 and I was approved for the rebate.
