No 2020 VIN delivery until Nov 1

I got a call today 1 hour before my delivery time that they have to reschedule my delivery until Nov 1 or later. Apparently Tesla employees got a statewide (Indiana) email this afternoon saying they cannot legally sell any 2020 model Teslas until Nov 1. There's no difference between my MX and one produced a month ago, but for no apparent reason, they can't actually let me pick it up until Nov 1.

I'm not sure if this is something uniquely stupid to my state, but I figured I'd still post about it to vent and maybe prevent someone else from going through this silliness today.

I ordered 9/29, received a note yesterday to schedule delivery. The earliest I could schedule was 11/4. Put my vin into a vin decoder and it said it was a 2020. Perhaps the same “no delivery before 11/1” rule applies to Texas.

Yeah I realized it when I got an auto insurance quote for my actual VIN and in State Farm's system it was pulling up as a 2020. That upped my premium about $100/yr for no good reason too, which is kind of annoying. When I searched the VIN online I verified the same thing with the catalogued model year though.

I ordered 9/21 and have a scheduled delivery here in GA tomorrow 10/26. It's a 2020 VIN as recorded in the database and showing as such for both the insurance company and the bank on their lookups.

They scheduled delivery on 10/12 and confirmed again verbally yesterday. I hope they don't pull that crap here.

Let me know if you're able to actually take delivery. The whole thing seems asinine to me.

Me too here in Florida. Scheduled for delivery tomorrow 10/26. Car arrived yesterday but I received a call today that I was getting a 2020 Model X which can’t be delivered until they “work things out” with the state to be able to deliver 2020 model year cars.

Ha.. I live in Texas went in, was clear to take deliver, nobody knew it was a 2020 til I pointed it out yet didn’t seem to matter. Then I decided to leave the car and have a few things taken care of then rather then later. First guess was be done this coming Tuesday then today I got an email saying the vehicle will be ready Friday “nov 1st”. Wonder if they found out they can’t deliver the vehicle yet.

I was just there in Decatur today. I arrived about 20 min early and they saw me right away. It was in the showroom and I spent about 20 mins walking around it before they pulled it out to the charger for the walk through. I only spent about 20 more mins with the rep and then headed home.

My only complaint was that it was only 1/3 charged. Otherwise, the car was near perfect. No odd gaps, alignment/fitting issues, etc.

I just took delivery this a.m. No issues at all

That's good. I called my service/delivery center today and they said they still can't do anything until Friday. She said the delivery freeze was nationwide. Maybe there's something else going on in Florida or they just didn't know or care and delivered it anyway, ha.

We'll see if the delivery happens on Friday as scheduled. I did ask her to reach out to Tesla since I'm not thrilled with rearranging my schedule a 2nd time and I think it's a pretty terrible way to treat a customer buying a $100k car. Maybe they can do something to try to make up for the poor experience this far.

Ordered 10/5, got a 2020 VIN, Delivered today (10/27). Ran the delivery checklist, no issues at all.

I didn’t have a delivery specialist because there was only one there and she was already helping someone else. My sales consultant did my delivery. He said it was the first 2020 they had delivered at that location. He added (unprompted by me) they were told they couldn’t deliver 2020 Model 3s, but Model S/Xs we’re good-to-go.

I wonder if they held it to announce updates. Did you get a chance to see the car? Did it have the new seats detailed here:
