Could all this have anything to do with the OP living in NY, where everything has been locked down by the state.

Imagine Tesla would be wanting to deliver every car they possibly can by EOQ.

This. They can’t deliver a vehicle to him until who knows when... They can’t even deliver the vehicle to his service center until who knows when... I get it’s frustrating, but these are highly unusual circumstances. I agree with the OP that his delivery specialist should have communicated better with him. Tesla’s delivery people have are all over the map in terms of reliability and communications skills. Some of them are very good and some of them downright suck. I don’t think they receive much, if any, real training for the job. The truly good ones get promoted on to other things and the crappy ones end up leaving for something else eventually.

If they already had his car allocated, I would think they should have at least presented him with alternative delivery solutions like taking delivery at the next closest Tesla location, even if it’s in a neighboring state.

So after a number of angry texts, chats and emails, i just got word that they have agreed to refund my final payment until such time as they can deliver a vehicle, which they have no idea about right now. i had a confirmed delivery date of yesterday, and while people all over the place are getting deliveries or at least know their vehicle is at the delivery center waiting for procedures, apparently my vehicle was given away so they could make an easier buck. (the VIN is gone from my page, and the fact that they agreed to a refund confirms that the vehicle is no longer available)

this is not a good start. already have my charger installed, already turned in my prior lease last week because the date and all was confirmed. and that car was paid through June. it's likely to be the fall before they can build more vehicles.

ugh.

The VIN assignment and acceptance of payment for the car constitutes a commitment by Tesla to deliver the car, correct? If they later back off on that, they should compensate for losses incurred by the customer (loan an M3 in the interim, at a minimum). Does the fine print allow Tesla to renege on a confirmed delivery like that?

Wow. You realize the Bay Area is a hot spot in a global pandemic right? 700 people died on your home state yesterday. California is shut down. The factory is closed. Possibly temper your annoyance at your delayed car with that in mind.

It is unfortunate, but you do have to treat Tesla like a shady used car dealer when buying from them. Bring your final payment with you to delivery and don’t pay until you have inspected the car. (Unless you live in one of the no sales states (like Texas), there are different rules in those cases.). Even before this crisis, there were tales of people who had paid in full and suffered multiple month delays waiting final delivery after their car was re-allocated.

LOL... I would never make final payment or sign any paperwork with any car company or dealer before inspecting the vehicle. I’ve bought and owned so many different vehicles, I learned that lesson early on.

No-sales states are a difficult situation. I think I would just arrange delivery in a neighboring state if I couldn’t do final signatures and swap them a cashier’s check when they deliver the car.

OP has every right to be pissed off, regardless of COVD going on, tesla is STILL pushing deliveries all day left and right. The fact that he can even get a straight answer is unacceptable. No car company would treat a customer like this in any way. Tesla is rated worst in cutomser service by consumer reports WAY before COVD. I myself had a fair share of Teslas BS. Now I worry about future warranty claims, they probably spit on me lol

I definitely understand your frustrations and they are definitely not great communicators. But I guess we should give everyone dealing with this crisis a break as well. I’m sure the delivery specialists themselves are overwhelmed with everything going on and management expecting all the produced model Ys to be delivered by quarter end. I’m sure if they could have they would have deliver the car to you first and foremost. When the NY area deliveries had to stop, they probably scramble to rout ur vehicle to someone else and forgot to call and contact you back especially since you had paid. I think we all should remember them at Tesla is a public company and they have been on the verge of sinking for a while before they picked things up last quarter and was able to raise cash. Think working in that environment might trigger bad behavior to deliver vehicles at all costs and sometimes forget the customer relations part. But I think at least they do listen and as a company they try to do good in the world, at least more so than most corporations. They’re helping route masks to hospitals and make ventilators for the country. So while you definitely have a right to be mad, let’s not forget to celebrate some of the good things that they do accomplish as well.

thanks, good info

I feel your pain, but 6 months before they can build cars again? They might as well shut the doors if that’s the case.

My VIN disappeared from my page too, and I’m selling my Volvo to Carvana next Tuesday, so I hear you, the uncertainty sucks. I’m working from home right now, but normally I’m on the road all week, kind of need a car for that.

My car was supposed to be delivered to my home this past Sunday. It didn’t reach Mt Kisco until Sunday, and there it sits. Tesla told me two weeks Monday. A lot has to due with the fact that NYS DMV is shut down, they cannot finalize the paperwork. Definitely sucks though.
i have been an insurance agent 43 years. dealers have the authority to issue plates and temp registrations and then they go to DMV in bulk. so not arguing with you but i think that's a weak excuse. but more importantly, they could have done the same thing with mine (kept it until the april 6 delivery date they had given me) but they didn't, they diverted the car so they could get their quarterly numbers.

i have a 94 bmw 840 that i keep as a weekend toy. i can drive that for a while but really it will depend on how long it takes.

yes i'm sure it did. elon's quarterly numbers are not really my problem. other vehicles are being dropped off at people's homes or held until early april. but really, it's the principal. we had a written, signed, paid for contract. to just have the number disappear off my account and go away and not voluntarily return $55k is, at best, bad relations

i have to be honest. my people are all working from home. with everybody sheltering in, there are not that many calls coming in and with no deliveries i have to think it's the same for the delivery advisors. they are probably working from home. mine totally ignored several emails to his specific email address.

but the worst thing is they broke the contract by giving my vehicle to someone else. when were they intending to give me back the $55k?

i am willing to allow that we are in weird situations that are unprecedented so contract language might not be critical, and i'm not looking for compensation. but yes, we had a contract and to just ignore it for their benefit but not follow up with returning my money until they are prepared to finish, in these strange times, was at least thoughtless on their part and obviously a violation of the contract.

same with me. ct, nj, are both less than an hour away
