No Touch Up Paint!

Yesterday I emailed the Parts department at Tesla Stockport to ask if they could get me a paint touch up kit for when I collect my car next Friday. This was the response:

“Unfortunately Tesla do not list touch up paints for the UK market yet, just for the states. Sorry for any inconvenience“

That was a surprise, given how long Models S and X have been around. Have existing owners always found this to be the case?

All I've seen is touchup pens sold at an extortionate price, but only for the aeros:

This is the official paint repair kit in the States - a whopping $55, although it is a bit more than just a pot of paint. I don’t understand why they don’t sell it here...

I'm shocked, too. I remember being given the sales pitch of "if you want accessories, give us the part number and we can ship it to you from the US store". Weird.

I have used Chipex (World's Leading Car Touch Up & Scratch Repair Kits | Chipex UK before, which looks like a UK version of the paint kits used by Tesla/Dr Colorchip in the US. I'll be ordering a paint kit from Chipex if/when my Model 3 arrives.

Thanks for that. They look the business, and as you say, are very similar to the Tesla product, in both appearance and price.

Quick question about the chipex paint, I see it says there platinum version has a shelf life of 4 years, but wondering if anyone knows what the life is once you open it?

For some reason its not allowed to be imported by Tesla due to some laws or regulations, but I did see it on eBay at a stupid price of £100+

I saw one person's attempt but it didn't look that good to be honest but might give it a try anyway!

I assumed that is once open?

Shelf life is usually the life of the product when in its correct packaging prior to it being opened. Durable life or useable life normally refer to the life of the product once it's opened or in use.
Could be wrong though, hence why I asked, in case anyone had bought it, and it told them the durable life.

Halfords will custom match your paint code and blend for a scratch / stone chip pen for about a tenner while you wait. I used it with my Merc and it was better than the official kit.

It's aluminium underneath so at least it isn't going to be rusty next time you look at it. I invested in a Chipex kit but I haven't tried it yet so can't comment on success or otherwise.

I've ordered the Tesla kit from the states. Waiting for delivery to an address in CA and then my friend will ship to me. Should be relatively cheap to ship from the US to UK as it weighs less than 1KG.

Will confirm the results when I've used it.
