    June 7 - Placed the order for a 2015 S70D with 44K miles.

    June 11 - Got pictures link: 094409
Was told that the two smudge marks will come out once it is detailed everything else looks okay...

June 19 - First contact from the Delivery Specialist after repeated attempts to get a rough timeline for delivery (all tasks have been completed on MyTesla site)

June 22 - Delivery was set for June 28 as a direct ship option.

June 22- Got the car delivered and it was a nightmare! car was not even washed/cleaned and the interior was trashed! Even a rinky dink used car dealer would never sell a car this filthy! Coming from driver Lexus and Mercedes, this is pretty bad though I believe in Tesla's mission.

    Pictures: TESLA S70D CPO

Is this the norm or am I being too nitpicky here? I pretty much spent the rest of the day cleaning and detailing the car....

The only thing that made everything okay was that it still great car. It's just that the whole CPO process needs some serious revamping!

This is why I would never buy a CPO from tesla without a personal inspection before buying. This is similar to my experience but it was a local car and I rejected delivery and went on to buy my current car from a fellow forum member.

Thorough interior clean costs you maybe $150; anyways Tesla should show the interior pics (trash included) beforehand so you know what you are up against.

I can't say whether or not it's the new norm (I sure hope not), but no, those pictures are horrible! It's obvious that nobody even looked inside the car and it wasn't even moderately detailed.

If the car is otherwise in good/acceptable shape (mechanics and body panels), I'd take those photos back to your sales and/or delivery associates and get something back, like at least two years of annual service or any interior repairs it may need from the obvious extreme wear and tear on the interior.

That's really unforgivable treatment of a new owner.

But congrats on your new Tesla and welcome to the club!

This is the new norm for CPO ..nothing a detail can’t take care of ..I would be more concerned on mechanical items if anything ...congrats and enjoy the car ! ...the forums are echo boards for things you can find wrong with Tesla..I have had 3 Tesla’s and nothing but good experiences ..both with the company (via service ,delivery) and the cars mechanically

Can't send it back, they do not have a SC in Idaho, he would either have t drive it to Oregon, WA or Utah.

It's pretty lame that Tesla shipped it that way but I am curious where it came from.

It is lame they didn’t even vacuum ..but unless mechanically something wrong with the car I would just get a detail ..complain to Tesla with pics above ..and enjoy the car ! The CPO experience while it has degraded a lot is not the same as a new car experience ..at the end of the day folks are getting a Tesla for significant discount than original owner paid for ....

Not what I'd expect from a luxury car manufacturer. If I were you, I'd post the photos on Twitter @ElonMusk, with the hastags #Tesla #NewCPOProcess. FAIL.

I certainly would have refused delivery, as I'd expect cleanliness from even a $10K used car.

Wow, that really looks bad and sucks.
Got mine 1 month ago in Chicago (2014 S 85), it was perfect clean, washed and vacuumed, smelled good. And a good experience at the service center when I came to take the car.
I hope you can send them the detail bill.

I would get them to pay for a detail. That is ridiculous they didn’t even do a simple cleaning of the car.

Only problem is Tesla charges more for CPOs than other dealers/private party sales. Normally you are getting a super clean used car with an extended warranty with other brands when you buy CPO. So they are worth the premuim on the used market. Tesla’s cars are in worse condition than you would find at any other dealer or private party sale, so the only reason to pay the premium is the warranty, and some CPOs have a shortened warranty as well.

Tesla will have to really lower prices if they want to run the program this way. As of today, there is no way I would buy a used car from Tesla under this program (having bought two previously). I am better off buying a used Tesla from CarMax.

Not trying to hijack but how do people live with their cars in such condition? My vehicles NEVER get that bad even after thousand mile plus long road trips! Disgusting. I presume there was a unique unpleasant odor to go along with the visual assault?

I don't understand how Tesla is allowing this. Seems an e-mail from HQ and or EM himself instructing their CPO sites to "at least clean" the cars before shipping is in order.

I have prepped my self financially to be able to buy a CPO going into retirement, but after following many CPO horror stories I'm now no so certain I want to gamble with my purchase with a "pig in a poke" experience. Sad,

Use ev-cpo and search for cars near you. inspect the cars before you put money down. avoid the pig problem entirely.

Yeah the car seems to be good mechanically and the exterior still looks great after washing it. I still a big fan of Tesla brand and I am even considering getting a Model X for my wife in the future. But the CPO process has to change in the future because (at least clean the cars) I don't see how this can be sustainable.

I was thinking the same thing, whoever owned this was definitely a slob.

Forgot the mention that there were no weird or unpleasant smells, thankfully!

im usually not picky and dont complain much but even I find that car gross. It looks like they did not bother detailing it at all. even rental cars are cleaner than that.

With a greatly reduced sample size.

I’d rather Tesla detail their CPO cars. It might boost confidence that the more important details were attended to (the supposed functional checklist).

At this rate, the higher mileage cars that Tesla normally doesn’t CPO may end up in better condition via Carmax than the newer inventory. Something’s backwards here.

Hopefully the next (E)VP of Sales & Service (or VP of Sales or VP of Service - now there’s an idea) will give the CPO program some competent attention.

I feel bad for the would-be buyers who are too far away from a larger service area to get a good local selection - because, as noted above, it now becomes imperative to inspect the unit before placing a deposit.

That would be ideal, but since I live near St Louis and the nearest Tesla CPO site is 300 miles north of where I live in Chicago, that's not practical. I was told I could place a deposit and have a car shipped to St Louis where I could view it, but if I reject it I'm still out the initial $1000. I wonder how many cars they would ship so I could inspect them?

So we have to "trust" Tesla and so far they have lost my trust.
