I'm getting close to buying a Model S P85, but my real world experience has been limited to looking at one at Cars & Coffee in Plano (owner AWOL :) ), and seeing them on the road. Starwood motors has some for sale, but I would like to see one close up without sales person pressure. Also like to hear real owner impressions first hand and go for a ride (passenger). Anyone in north dallas willing to show off their ride? I'll be willing to travel to you, of course.

Thank you. Another forum member PMed me this morning and we're meeting up after lunch. Still planning to go to the event if they have spots left, too.

Thank you to the forum member who showed me his car today. Not sure he wants his name posted?

It's an impressive car. Even the non-P model is pretty quick.

If you are more interested in quick delivery, there is a list of inventory cars.
Mostly these are service or loaner cars.
And, while there is a bit of a savings, they typically still have $7,500 Federal tax refund and full warranty.
I don't know if the same applies to a trade-in for someone who traded a car (S or P) to get a P+.

But, I think the pickings might be a bit thin (currently), because EOY 2013, TM tried to sell every available unit.

I heard of the inventory cars, but how do I get the list here in DFW? I thought you had to visit a showroom and we don't have one yet? Or can I go to the service center?

You need to call a store out of state or the corporate office in CA and talk with them. They won't be able to discuss the pricing and such at stores in TX

Also consider just doing a custom order. He wait really isn't that long and you get exactly what you want.

Yeah, custom order will be the next step if there's nothing in inventory. But maybe "my car" is already built and I can get it at a discount. Never know.

The car I want sounds like it's one of the more popular inventory cars: P85 w/ tech, sound and pano. I like red, white, silver and grey equally and don't really care which one of these colors it is.

Sounds like you are very flexible on color choice so odds are they might be able to find something for you. Best of luck.

Received a call back from Tesla CA today, and they arranged a test drive and put me in touch with their TX rep. Very nice guy. Test drove a P85 and it was great. He found me several inventory cars. I put down a generic deposit and now have 4 cars to choose between. It will be a P85+, fairly loaded with the tan interior. Still need to decide if I want white or grey exterior. Leaning towards grey. The inventory discounts were substantial, very pleased with that.

It's SO NICE dealing with Tesla directly and not having to go through a dealer.

You bet. That's probably worth about $10K of the purchase price right there.

Alright, picked out my inventory car. $13,710 discount. 5,400 miles. About 2 weeks for delivery from Seattle.

    Outstanding!

Sounds like you found a sweet deal, AND you will have your car soon (which avoids the dreaded "waiting period").

My only suggestion is to contact your local electrician to install either a NEMA 14-50 outlet, or your HPWC.
You can pm me if you need recommendation for a DFW area electrician to do the work.

That's great. Congratulations. And yes, get your NEMA 14-50, HPWC, or both installed--if for no other reason that that you might have to wait more than two weeks for the HPWC.
