In MyTesla I now (3 months before estimated delivery) received a VIN and a message that the order for my Tesla is confirmed and incorporated into the production planning of Tesla's plant. That probably means that my Tesla is not in the production line yet (?)
My other question is about notifications when the status of the car changes as it moves through the production cycle: are there e-mail or MyTesla notifications for those changes?

Did you ask for a 3 month delay, or first available, and it's just that they're backlogged. I don't yet have a VIN, but I'm slated for early Feb.

In theory as your status changes you should get emails from Tesla as it gets closer to production time.

I received my VIN on the same day I confirmed but production didn't start until two months later. As far as I could tell, the web site is updated by your Delivery Specialist and so only reflects he/her knowledge at the time and interest in keeping it up to date.

That said, you should call or email rather than worry.

Interesting, my order confirmed December 17 and My Tesla showed estimated delivery of Late Feb to March. I don't see a VIN number. Of course, I've sent my DS several emails about miscellaneous things and I have yet to get a single response. I'm still dealing with the person that helped me with the test drive and ordering, whatever they're called.

Could it have started construction but got delayed and didn't complete until two months later?

I would seriously call them. From what I understand in these forum discussions, when you get you VIN, your car is ready to start production. It seams that it would be a problem for Tesla to sit on the car for 2 months after it's built and delivered. Someone may not have gotten the message.

Not quite. It means it's getting slotted for an actual production timeframe/date. As per the Tesla FAQ, you will get it about 6 weeks prior to actual production, which is when I got mine (so far).

Mine is supposed to start production in early feb according to my DS. Got VIN on 1/1.

I just had a look at MyTesla: there was a new message under "What's next?(translation)": "Your Tesla is currently in production." ("Anticipated delivery period: End of February-March") - handover on 31.3.17.
Shouldn't there be a reminder or email notification sent to me when the status of MyTesla changes? After all I do not want to miss the payment date...

Wow. Odd.

The changes to MyTesla should in theory be in concert with an email, but anecdotally that doesn't seem to happen often.

No, the car :) Because the shipping can take a while, they will build international cars early in a quarter if they're to be delivered in that quarter.

I was more struck that you went into production so quickly until I realized you were in Switzerland.
