As this incident shows, it is important to inform yourself and riders (in the rear on the model S) where the emergency rear door opener cables are located in case of emergency when the power is cut to the car. Also, once the cable is pulled, the window will still be up in the top track without power to descend the normal inch, and will need to be pushed firmly to get it open from this resistance. The door opener cable is located just below the rear outward seat positions behind a flap in the carpet. Pull them towards the center of the car. Open the door firmly. The front doors are not electronically opened in the model S.

NOTE: If you have small children in the rear seat, remember, you will not be able to open the door from the outside, and will need to either break the rear window (difficult with the double pane glass in the new 2021+ Model S) or jump into the back seat somehow to pull the emergency cable and manually open the rear door.
