Octopus Agile and an Inaccurate IHD3?

First of all we have a lot of Octopus and other Energy provider posts on here as it is one of the biggest expenses of owning the car. I wonder if we should petition the site admins for a sub forum on this so we don't end up with huge posts with irrelevant details. Thoughts?

But the main question I have is, does anyone who has Octopus Agile get accurate costs on the IHD3, were they accurate on the bill. I've only had mine now a few days but as an example, today I used 8.68KWh of electricity "Today" before 7am and the IHD3 says that cost £1.09 which is about £0.12 a KWh however the published rates for Agile are

01:00 - 01:30 5.95
01:30 - 02:00 5.25
02:00 - 02:30 5.95
02:30 - 03:00 5.51
03:00 - 03:30 5.58

06:00 - 06:30 5.19
06:30 - 07:00 5.19

So at no point today was that rate available. Does this mean that I'm being billed wrong because the IHD3 is getting accurate info and I'm not, or that the IHD3 isn't getting accurate info.

Once I realised this shortly after installation I stuck the IHD back in its box and just use details from my Octopus account and the Octopus Watch app.

If you want reassurance I can recommend the OctoWatchdog app.
It will show you your daily bill in half hour segments as soon as Octopus update their system - usually by 9am next day.

Thanks for the recommendation! I just tried it and find the average p/kWh over the last 28 days very handy indeed.

That being said, the IHD can't deal with variable tariffs at all. Mine just shows the tariff at a constant £1.11/kWh which makes for some interesting figures.

+1 to using an app like OctoWatchdog.

Is this a current limitation of the tech that is being dealt with or is this a structural issue than can never be fixed, meaning that we're deploying technology that's already not fit for purpose?

I’ve already raised this in another octopus thread because my in house display is also inaccurate. Apparently it’s because the display can’t update fast enough with half hour readings so they just give it an average.

Crazy when you actually think about it!
