I remeber reading about the early days of video recording..
It was between 2 systems, VHS and Beta/
Beta was superior. But Porn was shot and available in VHS.
Beta lost

Betamax was a Sony owned closed ecosystem. Sony could not be seen promoting porn.

VHS was developed by JVC but was an open standard requiring no licensing fee. No CEO was directly responsible for pornographers using VHS tapes/equipment to sell their product.

VHS wins.

Here’s a twist on recruiting and Dojo-aaS: Use the app store model to enable developers to sell Tesla bot hosted solutions to particular problems.

Perhaps Tesla will make their bots available early to third party developers so that these developers can create new capabilities, for which I’ll pencil in the term "caps" (anything but ‘apps’ please Elon).

I’m thinking the developers would use the dev bots along with simulations and other sources to create data sets applicable to solving a particular problem—picking grapes, weeding, ironing, operating a fry cooking station, …—then they would use the Dojo service to accelerate the training of their new capability.

Tesla could vet and distribute the caps and take a cut a la Apple‘s App Store.

New gold rush right there.
Oh please.
I know a hand full of very skilled programmers who would help develop sexbot-caps 😁

What?

Beta lost because VHS had a longer recording time. Beta offered better picture quality but early examples only had a 1 hour recording time. VHS offered, depending on bad you were allowing the quality to get, up to 4 hours of recording time. This made it possible to not only record movies at home, but also purchase home video releases of movies on VHS. Most importantly, VHS was also cheaper.

Professional applications always used Beta for the picture quality, but home applications would soon be dominated by VHS.
And how long are porn movies?
Asking because i of course have no idea. :)
I was not stating my opinion. I stated what I read.
It fit with the opinions regarding sex bots

10X is 7 trillion valuation....let' get to 1 trillion, then surpass Apple's valuation whatever that happens to be at the time, then sky's the limit :)
Let's go crazy.
It Elon is right about the economy being, in the limit, bound by labour, then adding a lot of labour expands the economy by ... a lot.
The new frontier is space.
With a couple of billion robots, off course accompanied and guided by traditional humans, we can inhabit the solar system on a much shorter timescale than otherwise.
It might take a handful of decades. But in that scenario, why wouldn't the world economy be at least10X of what it is today?

Biodiversity collapse is a much bigger limit than labour.

It took years for Elon to realize that Tesla main mission should be the transition to renewable (due to the climate limit), I wonder how long it will take him to understand that the biodiversity collapse is well underway and more critical than climate change. It's also impossible with today's technologies to both expand the economy and not accelerate biodiversity collapse.

It took us so many decades to understand and accept the science of climate change and yet, we're repeating the mistake at a bigger scale and Elon keeps ignoring it (or stays silent).

When will we take IPBES as seriously as IPCC?!! I urge you to read this summary, my friends: http://ipbes.net/sites/default/files/ipbes_7_10_add.1_en_1.pdf

Just watch your pronunciation. Seems to be working.

I think it’s funny that this comment was moved to off topic galore.

I was attempting, in a light hearted fashion, to make fun of the tendency many have to attach a known reason to every movement of the share price. Correlation not equals causation. I wonder now if it was only seen as a reminisce about an old kids movie.

Tony Seba and crew at rethink are largely aligned with Ark on the speed of the transition. They also spitballed 2021 as the year that transportation as a service begins. Free presentation and very well done but like any prognostication it might be off here and there but the key themes are on point I think.

FWIW I like Seba but I also recall his presentation where he tried to convince folks we transitioned from horses to cars in like 13 years based on one comparison of NYC parade pictures.

The transition in most of the nation took a couple of generations... and even in NYC horses remained in common use for decades after that second "look! it's almost all cars!" parade picture.

In the same video he cites Dysons investment into batteries and EVs as an example of how easy it will be for everyone to make EVs... Dyson of course famously abandoned this effort because it turns out it's actually pretty hard.

Same video he also says we'll have 200+ mile range EVs costing 25k by... 2021. This year. And 20k 200+ mile EVs in 2022.

And BTW he specifically says those prices are without any government subsidies.

All his ideas are very solid- but he's a bit optimistic on actual timelines.

Which sounds familiar :)
