Ohio Superchargers

That wasn't really directed at anyone in particular, I think we'll all end up with them nearby eventually. I hope they prioritize those that facilitate long distance travel and then fill in the rest later. I'm still in a Roadster and superchargers that get me from Columbus, OH to Detroit, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Louisville, St. Louis and other Midwest cities will be necessary before I can replace my gas guzzler. Toledo area is great for me.

@PokerBroker

Nope not concerned and definitely don't want it in my backyard. Angola now replaces Marshall on the same route. Was just trying to understand where the location is, and what are the amenities around. I understand the rationale of Supercharger, but doesn't need to be at deserted location that you can only use before evening. I though however prefer to have one not more than 130 miles apart, have a 60 kWh.

Is 130 really what the 60s are getting? I can get 200+ out of my Roadster with conservative driving.

@PokerBroker, didn't take it personally. I am not sure that 60 kWh will get much range with 80% charge at highway speed in frigid conditions. I had contacted Tesla when Jackson was taken away. They agree that for supercharger to work for 60 kWh/Gen III owners, the distance will be less then that. They have demonstrated it on I-80. Mishawaka-Angola-Toledo-Macedonia all well below that distance. I totally agree with you, they need to be on route to major city in the area and little further away from origin to make it effective. Keeping fingers crossed, let's see what happens.

The Mishawaka-Angola-Toledo-Macedonia corridor is very well spaced. To complement this route on the eastern part, I think Cranberry Township, PA would be a very nice fit. But that is a discussion for another thread.

We just need to find the sneaky Toledo site. I'm hoping it is somewhere around the I-80/I-75 intersection. This would help both the east-west route and the north-south route between Dayton, OH and Detroit, MI.

@sgt barone, @772
How about I-475@ Airport highway for Toledo supercharger? There is a big mall area there, plenty of space to put one there. The area is Holland, I again searched city council minutes, but they have nothing uploaded since September. I bet Toledo is under construction, as superchargers east and west to it on the same route are ready or under construction.

That's a decent location, however a bit farther away from I-80 than I would like. My money is on somewhere in Perrysburg/Rossford, just south of I-80. It's a nice town with plenty of places to put a SC, like where there's a Bass Pro Shop near the I-75/I-80 intersection.

I agree, for it to be most convenient to all traffic, it makes most sense to be on that intersection. I was in Maumee, and Rossford was the only part in Toledo that I didn't visit. If there are decent utilities in the area, then this place will make most sense. Checked out Rossford council minutes, nothing. To note, there is also Hollywood Casino on I-75, which we have ignored till now. It is an excellent location for I-75 traffic, however 12 mile RT for I-80 traffic.

Stopped by the Macedonia SC today and things seemed to be moving along nicely. They were pretty busy working and I didn't want to take pictures of them to post online without permission, so I have nothing to post. I plan to go back perhaps next week or late this week if I get an opportunity. Wanted to ask whether they knew of any other SCs approved/under construction in Ohio.

I will be stopping by the supercharger tomorrow on my way home from Columbus. I will post pictures, however they may be night shots depending on what time I get there.

Cranberry, PA should be getting an SC sometime soon; I have been tracking building permits for both Cranberry Twp and Marshall Twp, but nothing yet. Marshall Twp says they have heard rumors about an EV charging station at the Sheraton Four Points hotel, but no permit has been issued, and they cannot confirm it is a Tesla Supercharger station. I wonder if the Macedonia crew will head East into PA to do Cranberry next?

Well, I'm not sure how the crews generally move, but the crew working at this location had a truck that made it seem like they were relatively local (it was definitely Ohio based, but I forget the name of the city already). Do the SC crews move from location to location or does Tesla contract locally?

It's almost as if Tesla uses city slogans as a way of finding suitable Supercharger locations.

Stopped by the Macedonia supercharger today! They have made significant progress since last week. The transformer is installed and the bases for the charging bays are all outlined. I can confirm that there will be 6 (six) charging bays at this location. All of the other equipment was under tarps due to the heavy snow we have been getting.

This supercharger is in an excellent location. It is directly next to an Outback Steakhouse, across the street from Steak 'n Shake and Pizza Hut (there is a crosswalk right next to the supercharger to access these restaurants), and right next to tons of stores like Hobby Lobby, GameStop, and a Cinemark. Plenty of retail and dining options for when you charge here.

Stopped by on my way home again today. Progress definitely being made per the pictures below (sorry for my finger getting in the way in the first one :redface:). I talked to the crew briefly and they told me that they did not know of any other superchargers/charging stations proposed for construction in Ohio/PA. Bummer, we'll just have to keep searching.

Didn't the original plan call for the first two Ohio Superchargers to be in greater Toledo and greater Youngstown?

I wonder if the reason for favoring the Macedonia plus Mars, PA set up over Youngstown was for distance or if they had trouble acquiring permits in the area. Also, anyone have any idea where the supercharger north of Macedonia will be in greater Cleveland? I was shocked to see that they've revised the original plan to put one there as well as one in Columbus.
