Service mode is pretty convenient. However I have found in my career that diagnostic data sometimes doesn’t tell the whole story. If you only look at what the repair procedure tells you, other problems can be missed. It is a garbage in garbage out system, and the technicians are nothing more than glorified part changers.

It’s 39deg/f out and my 2020 MYP has a climate system requires service message and won’t heat… urgh! Now at 87k miles.

Service has been notified and waiting to schedule. I’m so glad I still have a aftermarket warranty.

Anyone think it’s time to trade in?
I feel for you. In a similar situation. Fewer failures, no aftermarket warranty. Have posted on Twitter and Reddit but only recently becoming active on here. So I'll summarize.

2020 MYLR.

First heat pump started dying at 45,000, fully died just after 50,000. Had to battle with Tesla from 45k on that something was indeed wrong and then to get it fixed. Heat pump only replaced under warranty (saved @$1300). This was after 1 year of ownership and in the middle of peak Florida summer heat.

Went through same exact pattern 50,000 miles later in summer of 2022. This time, Tesla quoted $250 for freon and then $4,000+ to replace the entire system: Heat Pump, Supermanifold, etc. I declined.

Attempted to have Electrified Garage (related to RichRebuilds) investigate but they won't touch the AC system in the Y. Have not been able to find any other shop that can and will work on the freon system for this car. (Anyone know a shop anywhere in the country that will?)

I have gone without cooling ever since. Heat works well even when as low as -10 outside. AC does not cool if above about 80 outside. Dog Mode and Camp Mode cannot keep up if above about 75.

Still love Tesla but do so with a broken heart. Recently ordered a 2023 MYLR. Planning to purchase extended warranty this time. After delivery of the 2023, will likely cave and pay the $4,000 to repair the 2020 and then put it on Turo until that cost is fully recovered.

I feel for you man. I love the car but it’s has become the kinda love someone has for an abusive spouse.

where to get the extended warranty, is that the same guys "We are trying to reach out to you for your car extended warranty"
is that usually bought close to get the factory warranty expiration?

Thank you. Will give them a call. Website says $3,345 for 8 years 175,000 miles coverage on a new 2023 Model Y. That’s a great deal to me.

do you have to signup for extended warranty before you take the delivery or it has to be before your manufacturer warranty expire?
is there any deductable?
Deductible is $100 per visit, not per issue, so if you bundle two issues into one visit you can save $$$. Our coverage is priced according to starting miles and adjusted for remaining factory warranty, so best pricing is at new vehicle delivery but we are here for you whenever you need us!
