Hey folks,

So just got back from a lovely week by the coast, and found this little bit of damage to one of my alloys.

I've never seen damage like this to a wheel. Could it be just a really unlucky stone chip?

Also, incidentally....I had that same wheel refurbished 2 weeks ago after a disagreement with a kerb, so could it be something related to that?

Either way I REALLY don't want to lose the wheel for another week to get it repaired, spending a week on a space saver was torture!

An unlucky stone chip by the look of it. I can't imagine that's going to warrant the wheel being away for a week! I would just dab it myself but if you want an even better potentially invisible repair I'm sure it would be an easy job for one of the specialists.

Ugh. It would have to be the wheel that I just had refurbed.

I agree I shouldn't have expected it to be a week either, but when I had the kerb rash, which wasn't even that bad, every single quote I got back involved having the wheel for a week!

Might try again. There must be a mobile repair guy that could do that quickly, as you say.

Cheers guys.

I'm not sure I would bother to get it fixed straight away. It looks like its still protected so the paint is just cosmetic. Sounds like it may happen again so I would wait until the benefits of a pristine wheel outweigh the inconvenience and cost of putting it right. imho.

Your probably 100% right, however...with the car not even a year old I just don't think I'm ready to accept that yet lol

Was the refurb paint? Alloys are usually powder coated as standard. Powder coating is less prone to stone chipping than paint.
So it is probably not incidental that you just had it refubed. looks like the new coating might be on the brittle side.

A bit off topic but what space saver did you get? I'm having a wheel repaired next week and would prefer not to be without the car for 3 days!

Ended up getting the road hero kit. Bloody expensive, BUT comes with just about everything you need. Except I'm not overly happy with the Jack, but will do in a pinch. The wheel itself though is top notch and actually doesn't look that bad.

I genuinely don't know what they did. I've emailed the guys that refurbed it this morning so waiting for their response. I know it got sent off for a week to be done though. I trust the guys, same place that did all my PPF and Ceramic so I'm sure if its down to them they will honour it, although will probably mean losing the wheel for a week....which will suck.

I was thinking this too. Very unusual to have a stone chip like that, but not unheard of. If you've just had the wheel refurbished my guess is the paint is thinner and not powder coated as it should have been.

I've taken a similar view - had one fixed by a mobile chap who did a great job then got another (tiny) one a couple of weeks later. Leaving it now until all four need it when/if I sell the car.

If you can't live with it, pretty sure a mobile operator would sort yours out pretty cheaply.

I got both my nearside 19” on my BMW done the same day at smart wheels in Birmingham. The repair included complete stripping, re spray, baking & diamond cutting. I sat & waited!

Do you have a photo of the wheel damage before that refurb? Might prove if that area was resprayed.

Obviously it may just be bad luck, but given it was the same wheel, they may make some goodwill gesture anyway.

Seeing as they had the wheel for a week I had just assumed they did the whole wheel to be honest, here's a picture of the kerb damage that it originally went in for though. Nowhere near the area that the chip has appeared.

@Billbrown1982 Did the repair centre in Birmingham by any chance give you a paint code for when they repaired your alloys? I've got a bit of a ding on mine and the guy I usually use is asking me to for the paint code. He'd normally use a spectrometer to get it exact but it's broken.
