Select "standard" in the software updates, and then when it prompts you simply dont click install until you feel comfortable.

I prefer to wrap the car in alum foil to make certain nothing communicates with it.

Also, remove wifi access to your car (at home, work and Mom's house).

Don't park it near any service center wifi hot spots.

There's been a lot of updates where they stopped rolling it out after a couple days due to bugs, and then issued a new fixed one.

It's happening right now, with 36.1 having been stopped after 2 days, and then a couple days later 36.2.1 replacing it.

It's why I switched to "standard" for updates- it largely avoids the buggy first releases.
