Optional tire size for my YLR. I currently have 255/40/20 but I was wondering if I can possibly run a larger size tire to reduced road noise/vibration

yes go 255/45R20. More sidewall protection. It will ft no problem.

Keep in mind, road noise will likely remain the same irrelevant of size. Some tires are noisier than others. Check tirerack site for noise/comfort rating.

Also keep in mind that deviating from 255/40 R20 may change the overall diameter and introduce some speedometer and odometer errors. Check for yourself at Tire Size Comparison and make sure you are okay with the error in speed if you deviate from the standard size.

Stock for MY is 28 inch diameter, so that is 255/45 R19 or 255/40 R20 or 255/35 R21

It's so small it doesn't even need to be mentioned, especially if going to 255/45r20. It's a 2% difference. If it's saying 50mph, you're actually doing 51.8mph

I am running 265/40/20 without any issues. I am even contemplating going to 275/35/20 for my next set for even greater contact with pavement.

I run 265/40r21 on the fronts and 295/35r21 on the rears — looks great, handles great, rides great and is quieter than OEM (due purely to improved tire spec). Fits easily. No regrets.
