Keep in mind I'm already a Model X owner and have 2 Model 3 reservations. One I made in 2016 and the other RWD LR I started fresh yesterday when ordering this car. What's up with that?

Guess I'll be taking delivery in the next week or two! Even the customer service guy who called was surprised. Tesla says its sitting on a lot in Fremont.

Obviously, question is... why me? Especially when I started a new reservation rather than use my old one.

2 week deliveries in Fremont?
This is happening nationwide right now on LRs that happen to meet the build of cars made in June/July during the production ramp...what we are learning is that the ramp did not involve just fulfilling a bunch of custom orders...it involved building a bunch of stock 3s for later sale.

OP, the Bloomberg tracker (which is now showing a build rate of 5500/wk by the way!) is still showing deliveries of cars in the 20xxx-35xxx VIN range over the past several weeks. This is what I mean by June/July ramp builds just now being matched with current buyers.
We Set Out to Crack Tesla's Biggest Mystery: How Many Model 3s It's Making

What'll be interesting to see is whether LR demand is still sufficient in the US/CN to match the current high production rate. I'm assuming that production of P and of AWD is currently somewhat limited by availability of front motors, white seats, and so on. And that LR/PUP is thereby filling the gap in order to keep production as high as possible. But there have to be buyers for all of those LR/PUPs! Interesting weeks/months ahead for Tesla and Model 3, I suspect.

Tesla seems fit to jack up prices.

Observing indirectly, that tells us a lot.

Odd then, that my delivery estimate still says Oct - Dec, directly contradicting the "two weeks" said to me on the phone/ in-store after pulling up my account.

Why because it was a rejected car!!!

Haha I bet that’s what you were thinking. I’m just kidding. Enjoy!
PFFFT well thank you for bringing that up!
I bet the paint has swirls and the chrome is scratched up, but It probably came off straight off the factory floor :p
My X had the same swirls/chrome scratches but It was clear every car came like that thanks to the "detailing" which I'm sure is unavoidable even if I ask it to be skipped. At the Fremont delivery center where I got my X I saw delivery specialists randomly going around and wiping things nonsensically with a cloth and spray bottle (yikes!)

I ordered 8/01 and getting delivery 8/07 = 6 day turn around in Fremont.

There is probably a huge lot of rwd 3s in fremont either waiting for a carrier to go across the country or waiting for NoCal to buy them

6 days is enough to get rejected in Fremont. Sent down to Orange County to get rejected a second time.

Based on informal polling, we are going to take Tesla’s quarterly deliveries and cut that number by 2/3rds.

Few days ago I stopped by Tesla Rocklin, I saw a hundred of model 3. Asked an advisor here, he said if I select the exact configuration that they have right now, I will get the car in just few days.

So if you stood in line on 3/31/16 waiting for your Tesla Model 3 who would have known that you would only have three months in 2018 to get priority on your car: February, March, and some of early month of April

This assuming that your are a non-employee, non-owner, and live in the U.S. of course.

I know several people that configured on mid to late April and received their cars in June / July (myself being one of them) while others that were invited in late June were receiving their VINs in a week or so. Of course there were some folks that configured in late April or May that did receive their cars in a few weeks. On June 27th the flood gates were open and now deliveries are increasing.

My build says July 2018 and was informed by rep that it was freshly built. I don't know if I would have minded or known the difference with an inventory car. I figure as long as the car looks good and operates good that's all that matters. Freshly built or not I have an appointment at the body shop on August 14th for some minor cosmetic issues but at least the car drives great.

Also, who would have known we were not standing in line for a $35k car but instead a $50-60k car.

I wonder who would have wanted to wait in line knowing what they know today...

There were hints it would go this way if you paid attention to the X rollout. Those folks waited even more years years and they fairly quickly got to the point where if you walked in off the street and ordered the config they were building at the time (the P models) you jumped ahead of everyone in line who was still waiting for the less expensive cars. The only surprising thing for me about the 3 rollout was the RWD LR was that config and not the P model as they have historically done.

Here was a response I posted back in April 2016:
That is tough to say. Based on past releases, your reservation order gets you into the configuration screen quicker. After that it was much more about WHAT you configured and where you lived it seems like. Even now, I think you can log in and order a P Model X and jump ahead of people who have been waiting 3 years.

I was surprised they didn't release the most expensive version either. When I received my Standard Battery estimate for Dec 2017 I thought ok this is might happen....then moved to March 2018 I thought getting closer but then moved to end of 2018 at that point I speculated the Federal Tax Credit going away so I pulled the trigger in April.

I never paid attention to the X rollout but I did remember Elon stating that they have learned from that build and the process should be smoother. They clearly ran into some bottlenecks but things are moving along.

To be realistic, what percentage of the population paid attention to the X rollout? I remember our family having an interest in a Tesla SUV but couldn’t go well over 100K for one.

Years later we snuck in with a 60D non PUP for much less.

Tesla needs the high margin cars to roll out first to keep the lights on.

I paid it forward when I could.. all check boxes P3.

I can’t wait for the 35K (no options) Model 3
owners come in and complain about anything.

Has Tesla created a glut of LR, rear wheel automobiles (without D, or D +P)?

I have no idea, but I'm guessing that many that were previously interested in that configuration, are now wanting LR, D or D + P.

I doubt many SR would-be buyers have any expectation of a D or D + P.
