Other car's paint left on my M3, how to remove...

I have a white model III (8 months old). Someone opened their door into mine in a parking lot and left a black paint mark on my door. How can I, without damaging my car's paint, remove the black paint and restore the car to the pristine condition that it was in? If I have to go to pros, I will, but this looks like a small job to me.

Believe it or not, try a little toothpaste and a microfiber cloth. Old detailer's trick - very mild abrasive so it doesn't harm the paint but works well to take off minor scuffs.

If you're in a hurry just wet a washcloth with paint thinner. It will rub off.

You can go buy a clay bar kit and try that. It has worked for me a few time before.

pls no paint thinner/acetone/etc...

Go get a proper fine/mild car polish + hand pad and go to town on it. It won't be the last time you need to polish something out of your paint.

I swear by Menzerna, but I went through a detailing illness - you could probably go to any auto store and get whatever.

I have had good luck slowly flaking off most of the paint from the other car with my finger nail. Then use a slightly abrasive polish on what is left.

If you do that on a black car you’ll regret it - for those of you reading with black cars.

Try NuFinish polisher, it will remove it.

Scratch X on a Microfiber towel. Scratch X is a diminishing compound. It get more mild as you use it and ends up with a soft polish. One step and done.

Try the mildest compound first. Only go to more agressive compounds if the mild stuff in not effective.

Follow up with some polish or wax.

+1 vote for Meguiar's Products. As Uncle Paul suggests, start with the least aggressive product and then go to the next more aggressive product it doesn't work.

For the Meguiars consumer line, the order from least aggressive to most aggressive would be:

Ultimate Polish, Swirl X, Scratch X, and finally Ultimate Compound

Start with a clay bar. If that doesn’t work, go to more aggressive methods

If you use a clay bar to remove transfered paint, please throw that clay bar away afterwards. Otherwise it will be contaminated and scratch your finish the next time you use it.

May sound funny but it is very quick and doesn't hurt the Paint... Spray a bit of WD-40 on it and lightly wipe with a Magic Eraser. Should come off within a minute or two. Then wash with soap and water. I've had to do this a few times after someone scraped their paint on mine.

Just plain old magic eraser and water. The eraser can scratch the paint if you rub with it for ten or fifteen minutes by hand, so if the black isn't off within two, it might be a gouge instead of a deposit.

I used toothpaste and a soft toothbrush, worked gently and in a couple of minutes the black paint was gone. Thank you all for the suggestions.
