Just wondering if anyone in the Ottawa area has received their VIN yet. I preordered in 2016 when I was living in Toronto but have recently relocated to the Ottawa area. Im guessing Ottawa deliveries will be soon after the big Toronto release event.

Not that I've seen -- I'm keeping a pretty keen eye out for the first Ottawa area VIN, but haven't seen one to date. I'm suspecting they are looking to batch a bunch together since they seem to be planning to locally deliver a bunch to Ottawa (although Delivery Specialist still encourages the full "delivery experience").

Also, picking up in MTL may complicate tax matters -- it's my understanding that you pay taxes on where you take delivery, and then you might need to do lots of paperwork to arrange to get the difference back (as Quebec taxes are slightly higher than Ontario, so you might want to pursue the difference on such a large purchase).

No, got my call on Weds but no VIN appeared. I said on the phone I'd probably want delivery. Going to call this week and see if that means I'm further back in the line now. If it does I'll do the road trip.

I talked to my delivery adviser on Thursday around mid-day (ironically had talked to him on Monday just before they got assigned their lists). I haven't seen a VIN yet either, but I'm not sure they are correlated. I didn't commit to delivery or pick-up (in Toronto most likely to avoid the Quebec tax issue), but I do have a trade in to do -- for which I got sent the online forms (and I completed those yesterday). I have noticed that all the vehicles with VINs assigned in one of the tracking spreadsheets are largely in the Toronto area, with a few outliers (London, Windsor, etc), and all in Ontario (presumably they are trying to help out with the rebate possibly going away some time in June or July).

Lucky you. When did you receive the VIN? Are you willing to share particulars about your order, etc?
Never mind, found them in another post of yours: Model 3 Canada - Confirmed Orders Only thread

I have a trade-in (might be a hold-up -- I submitted all the details for that yesterday, so hopefully that part will progress shortly), and I hadn't "submitted" the Insurance part online as hadn't got formal proof of insurance for new vehicle -- decided just to submit my existing policy (and can fix later with Delivery Adviser).

I've ordered Blue, Aero, no-EAP. Config date: April 5, 2018, Order date: March 31, 2016 (online); non-owner

I have a trade too - seems quite possible that delays things. I haven’t received the trade in form or any more info since I spoke to them. The overall process seems pretty varied across different people - not very reassuring.

What are other Ottawa-folk thinking about pickup vs delivery? I was thinking I might do the road trip but I’ll probably put PPF on the front end which will take longer with a whole 401-worth of bugs on there. Hmm.

I'm not sure I would have gotten the trade forms started if I hadn't already talked to my adviser twice in the same week and many times over the past few years (previously the adviser was on the sales side). He did say that I will likely have to update it closer to the date, for the updated mileage (although I provided via email my predicted mileage at the end of the month).

While I didn't out-right commit to pick-up or delivery, I will probably ask them to ship it to Ottawa, unless it's going to delay the car more than 2-3 days. My wife isn't (and kids for that matter) really keen on blowing a full day of travel to pick up a car, especially if they can deliver. It's bad enough not having a local service centre in her mind. Montreal pick up would have been better, except for the issues with taxes, etc. I'm at least far West-end in Ottawa, so Toronto is a little bit closer than for an East-ender as a result.

I'm not super concerned about applying PPF as I never have on any other vehicle and never really had any issues, but this one being a more expensive vehicle, might be worth considering -- but yeah, scraping the bugs off will be fun.

Maybe things have changed lately. My S purchase 3 years ago was plated & taxed for Ontario (I had it delivered to my home but would have been same if I went to Montreal). I've not heard of anyone in Ottawa pay Quebec tax when picking up in Montreal.
Service and parts purchase at Montreal is subject to Quebec tax rate.

I was given that information by delivery adviser, but would need to validate that with more than one person to be certain. Where you take delivery usually matters though for taxes, regardless of the product (for instance: taxes are calculated based on the "ship to" address usually).

Got clarification via email from DA that the trade-in status doesn't affect the production (and thus VIN assignment) (and neither do the other items in the online portal). They will affect delivery though. Mine have gone "all green" now...(although I may have to update the insurance picture (and maybe policy #) once the VIN is assigned).

No VIN, no calls for me as of yet (blue/aero/non-owner/config mar31). I am getting antsy as it seems like they're only concentrating on the GTA. We are part of Ontario as well and want to get these gems sooner than later as well! I've bought cars in Quebec while living in Ontario before w/o any issues (paid the ontario taxes), but I don't know if Tesla Montreal does or can do the same.

Cleary griping on the internet works because my VIN just arrived. ;) Or admittedly more likely, they're working through a list as fast as they can, checking various items before confirming the order. My order is silver/aero/non-owner - confirmed the order and paid on 27-Mar.

Looks like I got my trade-in evaluation back already (1 business day since submission of the form with the info as noted above by 03DSG) -- not 100% sure as two fields are still showing "Pending" (Payoff Due, Trade-In Credit) (the one that has a value is "Trade-In").

It's really low. Market value from Kijiji and AutoTrader are approximately 7-9 times higher, so most likely will not trade it as a result.
