sorry I missed this. That's knoxville, TN. I was surprised by the fact that it was slightly cheaper than what others have seen, while simultaneously still dissapointed that the part is so expensive

Drilling aluminum, you can prevent shavings going where you don't want by using GREASE on the drill. Pack the flutes and hold a vacuum next to the drill to pull a negative airflow to help. Nothing will end up inside.

Definitely go slow.

Finally got the car back with a new LDU. Has anybody gotten lucky with a “rectification” as the pay type? I’m thinking since the previous reman LDU only had 17k miles on it before it started to make the milling noise, and they replaced it no questions asked (well outside of any warranty period) that Tesla might’ve known about an LDU reman issue?

First time I've heard of that pay type... They might be doing that as an internal tracking method, instead of the nearly-always-used "goodwill" option.

In this case, “rectification” is definitely better fitting than goodwill.

2019 Model S Performance with 31,000 miles. Rear motor failed with random red PRND issues, going into park without notice. Never saw an error message, but Tesla Support pulled the logs and said I need a new motor.
Estimate says:
ASSEMBLY - REMAN - SPORT REAR DRIVE
UNIT - LDU(1025598-00-T)
