P100D for Sale Now

The blog post mentioned that customers who hadn't taken delivery yet could upgrade for $10k. Maybe they'll let you order another car for $10k more. Only down side would be the wait. "Tesla customers who have ordered a P90D Ludicrous, but not taken delivery, can upgrade to the 100 kWh pack for $10,000."

If you do it, do it because you want the additional range..and do it now for 'only' 10k.

If you're doing it for the added performance, you wouldn't even be asking the question, you would have already made your decision. If you're still asking the question, you don't really care that much about the performance because paying $10k more for 2.65 to 2.5X is simply non-sensical. (I brand new P90D has hit 0-60 in 2.65)

So this is interesting:

P100D MX:

2.9
seconds 0-60 mph
1.4
seconds passing speed, 45-65 mph

P90D MX:

3.7 seconds 0-60 mph

As someone else pointed out, Ludicrous is no longer available on the P90D, which explains the huge difference 0-60. If you've already got a P90DL on order you can keep it, and the difference is .2 seconds? More interesting is that this is the first time I've seen Tesla call out 45-65mph time on the order page. Is 1.4 slow? I'm guessing it's not linear 0-60, and given all the pain they went through when the P85D first came out, Tesla is being a bit more cautious. So what does a P90DL do 45-65?

Maybe I'm being silly, but I'm surprised how much the top Model S has increased in price since launch. My P85 came to ~$109k in 2013. I didn't even get in at the bottom, that was one or two price increases after the Signatures got delivered. Now, configured similarly, I get ~$150k today. Granted you get a lot more equipment and a better vehicle, but wow. That's a huge jump.

That said, they've also pushed down the lower end. The cheaper models are more attractive than when I purchased, and a vehicle of similar speed and capabilities to my own is still about the same price.

So it's interesting to me that the top and bottom of the price scale have pushed out so far.

I have a P90D on order with a delivery date of "about 2-3 weeks." I called my owner advisor and delivery specialist to check into my options 10 minutes into the announcement.

She gave me an email address to use and is telling me Tesla will honor the $10k price difference to convert my from 90 to 100 (and not the $20 K upgrade price) and that it will achieve the advertised 0-60 speeds.

Although you can apparently order, it's not actually available with no way to move mine from 90 to 100 as it's currently being built and no clear option to delay my order until it is.

This may attract those who want to by the car for bragging rights (like many early P85D buyers) but who aren't interested in it being an EV. For some that may even be a bug rather than a feature. Tesla charges top dollar for it and will gladly take their money, but I'm not sure how it advances Tesla's mission.

They basically told you how it advances the mission right in the announcement: they take the money, and use it on the Model 3. This isn't a new thing to any of us here, but it does explain why the high-end model keeps creeping up in price.

The P100D is for sale now! $20K premium over the P90D. Yikes! I was hoping for a tiny price cut on existing models.

While I think Tesla Model S is cool and telling myself saving gas justify buying one. But the fact P100D or even let say 100D cost well over 120k for it. I dont think the "luxury" design / interior warrant the price yet.

You can get a Porsche or really nice Mercedes or BMW for 100k with much better interior detail design....

why isn't there a 100D instead of p100D? Not everybody is keen on 0-60 in 2.5s. I do see this as a way of beefing up the profit margin though.

It's coming. Musk said it would be "several months" though.

That sucks...Only people with the 90 can upgrade to 100. How about us 70s...

People who bought a 70 had an opportunity to buy a bigger battery but didn't so that may be the reason.

That's a matter of opinion. Here's a 2015 Porsche Cayenne interior. I'll take my Tesla's interior any day over this crammed cockpit of dials, buttons and knobs, with a small screen:

Your P85 does 0-60 in four seconds and change, the new top end is 2.5, that's a huge difference. If you spec out a roughly comparable car, you'd be looking at a 90D (no P) and I think the price will be much more comparable as well.

They haven't so much raised the price of the top end as they have added higher-end variants.
