How did you connect the back rest cables? Did you actually switched the motors or just cut the cables from the new seat and connect them to the old harness? I’m working on mine and the only thing I have left to do is the back rest... a little help would be greatly appreciated it. Thanks!
Thanks to everyone who contributed above, I fitted a 2017 driver's seat to my 2014 S. I also bought a scrap 2014 seat for the wire harness and switches as I wanted to be able to refit the original seat.
The lumbar in/out and up/down wire colours were reversed as compared to the earlier photos, probably because my driver's seat is on right. I added a Ford /jaguar seat switch for headrest control. It is obscured a bit by the seat belt, but it works. View attachment 660166View attachment 660167
I am currently having this same exact problem. Were you ever able to get the seat working?I have a mid 16’ I bought 17’ seats The drivers seat fully connects Black connector, Grey Connector and Yellow connector. The seat will move forward and back and the back rest will tilt, no lumbar movement and my steering wheel will not move. No air bag light as both had 4 wire yellow connectors. Passenger seat is as stated above, original has no memory, new 17 has the module. Needs the grey connector, car does not have the grey connector for passenger side. So can someone help me with moving forward?
So I managed to get a Premium Gen3 seat and was going to try and use one of the guides someone else posted for the NextGen seat retrofit but this won't be possible due to the newer style wiring/ connector. Also, the seat I purchased has the ventilated option as well so there will be even more wires to play around with. Right now I'm trying to think of a way to integrate everything without have access to the wiring diagrams though I do plan on contacting Tesla to see if they'll send me a copy... I'm 99% sure it's not going to happen lol
Hopefully this weekend I'll get some time to trace the wires from my current seat and the newer seat then make my own diagram from what I find. I would really love to make this work considering the Premium seats are significantly better than my gen1's.
I plan on documenting everything and taking pics along the way. If I can get everything to work I'll definitely create a detailed tutorial with lots of pics.
The Front Seat does have two small tears but if I can get everything working I'll be replacing the whole seat cover more than likely I was able to snag it off of eBay for under $200 so worst case I'll turn it into a garage or office chair

Hey, I have been studying your write up on the seats trying to prepare for this install. I notice that my new Drivers seat has an extra white plug/harness by the controller. Most of the premium seats I see on line don’t have this extra white connector. Does this look familiar to you? I circled it in yellow. The only time I see this connector is on the premium ventilated seats but my new seat is not ventilated. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Need to know if I need to get different premium seat or will this driver seat work.So I managed to get a Premium Gen3 seat and was going to try and use one of the guides someone else posted for the NextGen seat retrofit but this won't be possible due to the newer style wiring/ connector. Managed to get a pair of next gen seats from @wk057 . Swapped my memory controller and the red seatbelt retainers (canadian compliance) and had 0 issues. The seats had the older connectors, so I cancelled the adapters order from Tesla.
Alright guys. I could use any help available here. I have the 2012 seat on the left and a premium 2019 seat on the right. I know I have to swap controllers. Are the grey and brown connectors on the controller just plug and play? And what do I do with the black connector coming off the premium seat controller? Please help?I think I remember a large, white connector block. It may not be the same one as yours. On the premium seat, there was a connector between the seat base and the seat back. On the original seat, the wiring harness was in one piece.
