I tried to figure out where they were planning on placing the Supercharger that will be between Seattle and Portland. On the map the location looked like the Kelso area. I would think that Centralia would be the optimal placement location since it is half way between Seattle and Portland. They have the Outlet Mall right there and it is an easy on/off exit with a park nearby. The Walmart exit in Chehalis is a traffic mess. Kelso and Longview might have other charging opportunities since they are larger towns.

It looked like there was plans for Superchargers in the vicinity of Eugene or Salem and Medford or Grants pass too. Any knowledge of more specific locations?

Did anyone manage to figure out whether the map at the presentation showed locations that were specific and accurate representations of their plans, or is the map just a speculative at this point for locations other than California?

From the picture, looks more like Castle Rock is where the red dot is?

the other thing I noticed, the scale on their map seems way off. north Dakota is 210 miles wide, but from their scale its more like 430+

As I'm currently configured to get the 60kWh battery, I'm wondering if the network will actually work (or maybe it just works for a Portland/Eugene trip), especially once the vehicle has aged a bit and battery is in the 70-80% range, how far can you drive at exact speed limit then, my guess was something like 140mi real world which means no nationwide road trip is likely, but I wasn't planning on making one anyway

I got the 85 battery for the purpose of doing a Portland/Eugene/Portland round trip.
FYI, I would bet the Oregon locations indicated are Woodburn and Medford, and the long-term location is The Dalles. Any other guesses?

The picture is so fuzzy it's really hard to tell, but it definitely seems too far south to be Centralia or Chehalis which I would have thought to be the most logical spots. Judging on the distance between the dots (it appears to be about 200 mi from their scale), I would venture that the two chargers are in Bellingham and Castle Rock, which are 205 miles apart. Castle Rock does have the benefit of being the entrypoint to Mt. St. Helens National Park and does have some eating areas there, but not as much as Centralia for sure. That's a shame because we pretty much always stop at Fort Borst Park and let the kids run around for a while when we're doing the Seattle to Vancouver run (or vice-versa). There's not much at Castle Rock other than a few restaurants (and my Aunt's house, but that's two miles up Hwy 504 - too far to walk from the supercharger!).

The location choices are a) relative to major cities and b) relative to each other. Centered between PDX-SEA would be best for people in PDX & SEA, but might not align with other charging locations.

I was once told they were going to put one in Ellensburg where the HPC is. Oh well, at least there's an HPC there.

Woodburn is definitely a good guess. I hope to GOD it's not at the Outlet Malls or my wife will make up for our gas savings in Coach purses. I, too, am getting the 85 so that I can get to that that trip, albeit in reverse, so I'm hoping not to need that Supercharger all that often.

I think that the southern Oregon location looks to be farther north than Medford. I'm guessing the Grants Pass area or 7 Feathers Casino in Canyonville. There's already a 70amp Roadster HPC there and a few other EV chargers. I bet the Casino wouldn't mind the captive audience either. Oh, and it's RIGHT on the freeway.

Yep, Portland/Eugene/Portland here too. I think I'll generally need a small top off though. Going 70-75 on the freeway is going to be really pushing it as 1-way is right about 120 miles. Add in battery degradation in a few years and a top off is going to be mandatory.

Yeah, I know, I'm hoping to be able to do the topping off while I'm in Portland doing whatever it is I'm there for instead of on the road. For instance, when I come up for all-day CLE (continuing legal education) at the convention center I'm hoping to be able to use their chargers. Obviously, if I'm staying overnight it won't be a problem.

What kind of things bring you to folks to Eugene, if you don't mind my asking?

I grew up in Eugene and my mom lives there (and aunts, cousins, etc). If you're in anything related to employment law you might have met her :) (she worked in Eugene some of her career, though worked for the AG in Salem for most of the later years), though she retired in January.

Consequently, the wife and I visit regularly.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that I have met her. I do Workers' Comp Law (among other things) and I grew up in Eugene. My father's also a lawyer and also grew up here. Have you talked your mom into installing a NEMA 14-50 outlet for you? ;-) If you need the name/number of a good electrician in Eugene I can hook you up with the guy who put mine in.

I'm sure we probably know (in the "heard of" sense) some of the same people.

The other big trip I want to make is Portland/Ashland, but I won't be coming back the same day on that. It's too far for one charge though, I'll have to hit a supercharger somewhere along the way.

My kids live there with their mom. So, frequent trips. (The IT market dried up there, so I had to follow the "food source" northward.)

I wonder if we could convince Uncle Phil to put in some HPWC at Autzen... with preferred parking, of course. ;)

Pretty common story unfortunately. I have a buddy who got married over the summer. His wife couldn't find a job in Eugene so they're now living apart until she can (she was able to find something in Portland).

Hmm, if the southern charger is at 7 feathers that's going to be just about perfect if you can manage to moderate your driving a little.

I believe the 7 Feathers Resort has RV hookups. It might be worthwhile to call and see if they have a special rate for car charging.

I read at Tesla Motors site that representative at the Bellevue store stated that one of the Supercharger stations will be in Centralia, WA.
Close to perfect placement for me. Those small towns needed a good shot in the arm anyway.

makes sense, but also not close to where the red dot is on their map, guess those dots were pretty made up :)
