Hello, I just got my Model 3 Wednesday September 26. Yesterday, I noticed that there was a paint chip on one of the rims. Looking back over my previous pictures from the day I got it, I realize that it had been chipped that day and I just hadn't noticed it. Is there anything I can do about this with Tesla or is just touching up the paint myself my best option? If touching up, what color paint to use? The 20" wheels don't look as dark as the 18" wheels so I'm not sure the dark silver ford paint that seems often recommended is the best option. Any suggestions? Day of delivery: Yesterday: Today, showing that it's the same chip:
I would have Tesla replace the rim. These are the 20" premium wheels? if so you paid a hefty premium. I would expect a flawless finish. Imaging if you went to a customer rim shop and selected that special rim and paid a premium. Imagine the day you pick up your car you see paint chips. I would reject and insist they replace the rim.
Who would be best to talk to, do you think? My IDA? Service Center? Call the general number? My concern is that I didn't notice it at pickup so they could potentially argue that the damage occurred later.
I had a chip similar to yours, contacted the Service Center, and they have a new rim on order. No problems.
It took a while to get anyone to respond to me, due to how busy they've been. While they didn't offer a new rim, they did offer to pay to have the wheel repaired at their expense which should hopefully be fine. :3
