Paint Damage Repair Question

So I had to get my rear driver’s side window and rear quarter panel re-tinted last Friday. Was told not to open the door for a few days. No problem, was going on a trip and returning Monday evening.

So I open the door tonight to make sure there are no issues with the tint. Then I see something on the inner door area. Look closer and was shocked to see multiple deep scratches.

Now I’m 100% certain there was no damage there prior to the tint appointment. And I haven’t opened the door since the appointment.

So question for the experts. How do I repair this? Will touch up paint work? Or does this require the services of a body shop?

I’m going to the tint shop tomorrow to talk with the owner. But am afraid they’ll deny any responsibility. Disappointing since this is the 7th car they’ve worked on for me over the years. First time I’ve ever had any issues.

It depends on how much it is going to bother you. Touch up paint will work to cover over and protect the scratches. However, in my opinion, the white pearl touch up paint does not perfectly match. You will be able to tell it was touched up.

Yeah, I need to find a mobile paint repair company that can do a spot repair job. Won’t be perfect, but at least it’s in an area that’s somewhat out of sight.

If you run your finger nail across it, does your fingernail stick in the scratches? I’ve ordered Tesla’s paint touch up kit for my red model Y and it was a near perfect match. At least in your location when you shut the door it should not be visible.

Finally got this fixed. Was originally going to take it to a local Tesla certified body shop but a friend referred me to a highly rated mobile paint repair specialist.

Extremely pleased with the results. The repairman was so meticulous and spent so much time prepping the entire car to protect it from overspray. Wouldn’t hesitate to use him again for any future paint repair issues. And can’t beat the convenience of a home repair.
