Hi,
I’ll try to be brief as there are loads of paint issues forums out there and I’m hoping not to start the debate about how and what Tesla should cover here. I’m trying to understand what’s ‘normal’ in the industry as I haven’t bought a new car for many years.
A soon as I picked up my M3 in blue I took it to the detailers for a bra and ceramic coat. The detailers refused to do the job as the car was covered in swirling, scratches, contaminants etc, and primer was showing through in some spots. The paint thickness only measured 46um at its thinnest but averaged 70um. The detailers said it was too thin to correct in some parts.
Tesla Manchester have agreed spray parts of the car and it goes in this week - I’m pushing for the whole car to be done but they won’t confirm.
My question here... is it normal not to have the insides of the wings and boot hinges not to be covered? Do all manufactures paint with the doors on, then reposition the hinges after? Is this a normal Tesla thing or was my car the one that the robots painted after they got back from the pub. I keep watching car manufacturing videos and no other manufacturers seem to paint with doors on?
If anybody has pictures of the same locations for their Tesla’s they can share so we could compare, that would be really helpful (at least for me!)
Thanks,
Chris
