Paint Protection Films and hydrophobic layer on top

For those that have PPF or know about it, can we apply a hydrophobic layer on top?

Seems like one of the films has an inherent hydrophobic property, but the rest don't. I don't remember which has it, but xpel doesn't.

Has anyone been able to apply a hydrophobic layer on top of the film without damaging it? I'm referring to something like
CorrosionX 61002 Rejex

It seems like a ceramic layer is overkill on top of PPF and kind of doesn't make sense after reading about how it's supposed to work

the answer is yes, but just to say that since you seem to be new on the forum, check out the search feature on this. There are a lot of threads that already discuss films and ceramic coatings. :)

It might be considered overkill by some, put I put it over my film as it sure makes washing my car easier. I first tried it on half the car for a month to see if I noticed a difference. Bottom line, I did the other half after noticing a difference when washing it.

Sounds good, thanks.

What kind did you use?
If you are referring to PPF question, the I use clear 3m. There area a few different ones. The most popular seem to be Xpel and 3M. I am not going to proclaim that one is better than the other, but I'm sure you will have various "praise the Lord" opinions on both sides :) Some will yellow faster than others after a few years. I am really glad I got it. I did not do a full wrap, just the most vulnerable areas like the front, hood, mirrors, and lower side trim. I've seen some really cool full wraps of various colors, but man it must be expensive.

Oh yea, and I used CQuartz on the whole car inside and out. Again, there are other good options.

Many people seem to recommend CQuartz and it's not too expensive. Where is the best place to get it?
eBay or Amazon. If you are doing this yourself, then I advise you study up on how to prepare the car and how to apply. Claybar first would be a good idea. Consider having a detail shop with experience performing this task.

This is a really great topic, and it's a question we answer daily.

We manufacturer PPF Ultra that has a hydrophobic (HydroResist) topcoat. This topcoat has hydrophobic properties for increased stain resistance and longevity.

We don't look at ceramic coatings as being competitive to Paint Protection Film, rather they are complimentary. We do approve the application of ceramic coatings to both our 5 year PPF C, and 10 year PPF Ultra products.

Ceramic coatings offer great hydrophobic properties, add depth to your finish, and make the surface easier to clean. This is still true even when applied to PPF. Paint Protection Film offers a high level of chip, scratch, and stain resistance. We run our film through a variety of tests and we have found coatings add a benefit to the life of the film.

I hope this answers your question, if not please let me know what else I can help with.

Yes, you can apply a hydrophobic layer like a ceramic coating on top of PPF. Depending on what brand PPF you use, it won't be overkill because some films don't have a hydrophobic layer built in and/or aren't as glossy as some other films.

I have Llumar on the front of my car abd xpel on the rest. LLumar has a coating and it shows. I ceramic coated the xpel myself
