Part ex UK M3. Pathetic.

I went with Arnold Clarke for my 3.5 year old A-class (40,020miles, FMBSH, 1 owner (me), great condition). Handing back to Merc wasn't really an option as the excess mileage would have cost me around £400.

AC quoted me a figure online a few weeks ago and then dropped £300 off for a small nick on the bonnet when I took it in. The first word out of my mouth when they gave me the revised figure was an emphatic no. Went away and had the nick repaired for £50 and re-did the quote online on Monday of this week and it turned out to be £200 higher than a few weeks ago! :D

Took it on Tuesday and they tried it on with a tyre which had a TINY amount of rubber missing from the wall (not even sure how that happened as none of my alloys are kerbed). This time they tried to drop the value by £225  - I laughed in the guy's face and asked him if he genuinely believed it would cost £225 to replace the tyre. His response was "that's what the system is saying". My dad could see that I was about to launch a rocket at the guy (verbally-speaking) so he intervened and said we would be willing to deal if they took off £80 as thats how much a legal, part worn tyre would realistically cost (one of my dad's friends owns a tyre place).
The guy went to speak to his manager and suddenly the £225 turned int £85 (baffles me how much they try it on o_O).

Anyway, sorted it tonight. We couldn't complete on Tuesday as I needed to get a new settlement agreement from Mercedes that took into account my most recent payment. This now meant that they had to pay me £250 and settle my finance too! Winner

Surprised by that from AC. Our experience with two cars we sold to them was that they gave us the quoted price and didn’t haggle. There was a mark on the front of the merc which I hadn’t spotted but the guy just said that they didn’t expect used cars to be perfect and were happy with normal wear and tear

How close to the delivery date can the final invoice be raised? I was told the day before would be ok... but that seems too close to me?

basically today is my (internal) deadline for getting a quote. If it doesn’t arrive by 16:00 ish then I need to Cancel trade in and get invoice raised.

pick up is next Wednesday.

I got my final invoice two days before collection ... but that was at 17:31 so too late to actually speak to my bank until day before collection.

Yes, that is pretty close ...

My bank can transfer money ... as you might expect ... but it seems that most won't transfer more than £10K per day (no I have no idea why. If it IS money laundering, as they claim, then how come my bank can?). So if it is a £55K car, and your bank has a daily transfer limit, you need a week to make the transfers.

When I tried WBAC and some others in the Birmingham area both reduced the price by over £1k for various issues, first place claimed I needed new brakes and discs and I needed new tyre, 1 of which was worn out completely so I swapped for the spare wheel and the next place instead found enough dings and scratches to knock £1k off the car and didn't mention the wheels, both ended up being the same rough price which was a few hundred below Tesla who didn't haggle.

I got my VIN on Thursday so thought it best to start advertising the car WABC and a specialist dealer offered £17k so I took some really good photos and put it up on Autotrader for £20k NO OFFERS, within the day I had taken a deposit for the full asking price. Car did have a lot of extras but I got what i wanted and I am happy

If you price it right selling privately you will shift it

My fear now is the M3P will be delayed, if you don't part-ex there will be extra hassle one way or the other.
