Pay in full with personal check?

I have pick-up appointment scheduled for Monday.

I've seen several people say they were able to pay in full with a personal check no problem, but the email I got last night says if it's > $5,000 it needs to be cashier's check.

Has anyone had them NOT accept a personal check for the full amount? Do I actually need to get a cashier's check or pay online before pickup?

Thanks

I wrote a personal check for 2 cars before... not with Tesla... I don;t see why its an issue, If the check bounces, and its over $10k its a felony crime. I would think they will check with your bank right away.

Contact your delivery specialist as this varies by state.
In PA they were able to take a personal check for up to 10k and a credit card for under 5k. The rest only in cashier's check or pay through the site ahead of time by transfer.

I have; waiting for response. But it is actually in PA, so you may have answered the question!

Just received word back from local OA - they can only take personal check for max $5,000 and even then only in an emergency. This is in PA.

So, guess I have to decide if I want to go to the bank and get cashier's check or just pay online beforehand.

Where in PA ? Devon ? I paid more than 20k in Devon via personal check. Screw OA. Talk to SC directly please.

I just checked my email from half a year ago and it definitely said personal check up to 10k. Maybe they changed their policy.

As a side note when I got a cashier's check for the main amount the entire bank was excited. The teller was like jumping up and down and saying "This is so cool, this is my favorite transaction ever!"

I think it depends on how quickly Tesla wants to complete your delivery. My pickup was on a Sunday at the end of the quarter, and they had previously told me (both over the phone and in email) that a personal check would be fine. After I showed up, I was given the whole "we can only accept a cashier's check, not a personal check" dance. So I pointed out that the bank wasn't open on Sunday and I could reschedule delivery for sometime later in the week (i.e. October). They decided they could take my personal check after all.

Point of this story is that they do have the flexibility to accept personal checks, but they prefer a cashier's check or wire transfer as they don't need to wait for your check to clear. Make sure you ask your delivery person before showing up, so you know what to expect. As others have said, a cashier's check or wire transfer will reduce the hassle.

Im probably late, but I would say get the cashiers check. If you have to refuse delivery, you can always take the cashiers check back to your bank and have them put it back in your account.
