The screws on the sloped rear edge are hard to get to. Slipping off the rubber seal from the top of the trunk tub helps.
Actually, the screws on the side facing the battery were what bothered me the most. But I have a 2.0, not the 1.5, so you may have an easier time in that regard. What I did was to grab a short hex driver bit in a pair of vice grips at 90 degrees, so I could turn the screws.

Also don't forget to disable the APS first, as removing the cover will trip the safety interlock. (I'm assuming the 1.5 has the same.) That will (should) have the same effect, but it's best to take care of it yourself and not depend on the little micro switch under the cover.
