Perforated seats durability?

Interesting. Seriously? Elon is now endorsing the 6 seat? That doesn't make me feel great as a 7 seat whose car is in production. I do need the 7th seat though. Not fun having the CEO say/imply that's an inferior choice. Oh well. There are a plethora of options from which to choose and I like what I chose, even if Elon does not!
Well he is human and does admit to making some mistakes like the rest of us do. So it's just possible after weighing all the evidence and experience he came to the conclusion that 6 seats is better than 7. Perhaps one day he might even feel the same way about folding seats if they get a chance to revisit that design too.

I was just looking at pictures of someone's X and noticed the second and third row seats were perforated. Is that on all the cars? Are they ventilated? I thought that only the front two seats were ventilated with the premium package. Or is that part of the cold weather package? If there is no ventilation, why are they perforated?

I believe all seats are ventilated as part of the premium package. From Twitter exchanges with Elon, he does not recommend going with perforated seats with kids, so I would be excluding premium package. Whether or not non premium package will have perforated (but not ventilated) seats or not is something I am unsure of. Note that the perforated leather look adds to the luxurious appeal of the interiors and may or may not imply ventilated seats (example some Acura, Infiniti, Lexus cars etc).

I must be the only person in the world that thinks the perforated seats look cheap compared to smooth leather. I know they are a bit cooler (even when not ventilated) but I prefer the traditional smooth, full leather look.

... Are they ventilated?...
On my Model X Signature, only the front seats are ventilated with internal seat fans. (A separate fan motor in both the seat bottom and the seat back.) No ventilation seat motors in the rear two rows.

There are multiple air conditioning vents for the 2nd and 3rd row that have a separate fan system controlled from the touch screen. Window tinting included for the 2nd and 3rd row helps with bright sunlight.

This is cause for concern, as I have a Pearl White on White 90D ordered for my limo business. Considering that we have lots of people getting in and out of the car, I'm really hoping that there isn't an issue with durability.

I too was at the Meet the Model X tour in Costa Mesa last week and at least 4 of the Model X's had torn seats. The static model in the showroom with the white pleather seats was torn in two places and three other cars with the beige and black leather seats were torn. I pointed this out to the employees there and they tried to sluff it off as these cars are "driven hard with lots of people getting in and out of them." I did say I've never seen such issues with the Model S's that were used at drive events. I do think Tesla will quietly change the material used in the seats to be more durable. I just hope they don't try to blame customers if they start to see lots of torn seats show up at service centers and claim that this is NOT a covered warranty item.
With reports like these, many (Model S) drive units that often get noisy enough to warranty replacement by 20K miles or less and some of the door handle failures, one has to wonder about Tesla's durability testing.

I added automotive reliability and durability testing w/some bits I quickly found about car seat durability testing done by other automakers.

haha next year: "Definitely get the 7 seater with individually folding seats, unless you're someone who can appreciate the sculpted profile of the non-folding seats, or are too rich to do anything with your SUV aside from hauling people".

My wife was pretty gung-ho on 6 seats tho and saw this tweet as vindication. After driving a 7-seater, I'm with both of them haha.

Do these look cheap? Heh heh.

The Tesla delivery specialist didn't seem to know about it when I asked yesterday. My seats had no damage at delivery, but they definitely feel quite soft. Someday maybe I'll have the chance to compare how they feel to an earlier build. My guess is they're still the same.

Hi everyone, long time lurker. Ordered a 70d with no performance package so I assume no perforations in the back.

I truly want the ultra white seats as the vehicle is black with a black headliner and currently with black leather seats but we have a 3 yr old boy and planning on having two more children. My S85 is black on black and I can just imagine what the interior will look like in three years. Sigh....

Hopefully we get to hear about the backing being done before I receive my 70d.

One good thing about a retrofit of the Ultra White seat material would be an eventual refresh of your Ultra White seats. So not having the latest material could be one advantage over time.

Enjoy your Model X.

I have these ones. However, the 8" is too long and brings the belt to above the arm rest. I am going to replace them with this 5" version. Measuring, it should be perfect. If not, there are 3" versions as well. With the X, I recommend the rigid extenders. With the S, I recommend the strap extenders because the rigid extender forces the seat to sit crooked up on the side bolsters. I'll let you know how the 5" works once they arrive this week.

Thank you ohmman! I can tell from your pictures that the seat you are using is similar to ours and by the looks of it a 5" version should fit our needs perfectly. Now I can order the extenders and have them in time for our X delivery (whenever that may be)... :)
