Looks like Tesla has (further) addressed concerns with the drive units limiting power when hot: https://electrek.co/2019/04/06/tesla-model-3-power-high-top-speed/
This is great news for us track junkies. Even though Track Mode did a decent job of keeping the battery/drive units cool I could really only go flat out for about 4 laps before it would limit power. Straight line performance wasn't too bad but corner exit was a real drag (literally, there were points it was limiting power about 50%). My theory is that the rear drive unit was getting hot and hitting a hard software limit. If you turned track mode off more power would get diverted to the front drive unit which would "resolve" the issue; but obviously that's not a good solution.
Hopefully this will allow us to run many uninterrupted laps, and further shows the world that EV's can be fast on the track too!
