Performance not performing

As EVs are mostly charged overnight or very frequently the occasions where it drops to below ~50% won't be that common. Maybe on longer journeys & especially at cold temps but then who plans to race everything else on the road & at all times anyway? In addition, a sub 5sec car at 50% is still extremely quick.

For the record I will most likely fit into this category, I know, I'll apply to Tesla for a £5k performance rebate - that seems totally fair ;)

I love your positivity, and believe me I am trying to remain so, however..... Massive Point of principal here - Surely the P should out perform the LR (and SR+ for that matter) in any given situation, regardless of temperature, SoC and every other variable.
Absolutely fair point. Who would have bought an Escort RS2000 only to be thrashed by the 1600GL..

I agree I’m trying to remain positive but I feel like a mug. Paying extra for the performance model which at the minute seems anything but that compared to the cheaper models and older performance. Plus I’d be gutted if I ended up in a similar situation to the guy that started the thread.

Indeed.

I had a P on order and would have loved the extra performance but the wealth of evidence against it was overwhelming... The numerous videos, threads, reports etc.

I knew the doubt and frustration would inevitably spoil the enjoyment of the car so changed to an LR.

If you spend an extra £11k on the performance, you expect it to perform... Not for only half the time, or when it's only above 15c, or when it's charged above 50%, or any other load of parameters which are not made clear. Or at least I do. Maybe I'm just new to tesla and my expectations are way off.

I can't get my head around this justification of buy the P anyway because "you won't want to go fast when it's cold, in the winter, when your battery is not full"

Its a guessing game at the minute cancel P and go LR with AB only to find they fixed the issue and thats why there has been a big delay, and then you would be gutted you didn't get the P, or get the P and they haven't fixed the issue then you wished you had got the LR & AB instead. Alternatively leave the order in for the P and if it does the same then its going back.

Haha. To be honest, my decision was marginal for ages. I actually had an LR and a P on order for a while as just couldn't make my mind up!

I've always had the fastest car I could justify but the P did have some trade offs to the LR in regard to ride quality especially (for me, it's a personal thing).

The problems with the P just tipped me over the edge to be honest. I'll likely add accel boost to the LR and end up with the same performance but a comfier ride.

Again it's a personal thing... before anyone else gets their knickers in a twist. The P owners are a very passionate lot 🤣 🙏

I really don't want to get into being disappointed with a troublesome P and sending it back etc. Too old for all the hassle 🤣

I am guessing if they get enough people who ordered a P going soz lads this isn't what it said it was on the Tin, then the backlash not just at tesla but to the car press would be enough to warrant some changes as there top model is now no longer a top model and would come with a mahoosive warning!

Luckily the UK has some of the best consumer rights in the world!

Would be interested to know how many 2021 P have been delivered... problems are now widely reported but simultaneously there have been months of delays with new P orders.

2+2 = 4 ?

The only ones I know about are Fremont cars as none have been delivered from MIC yet, I think the one I test drove at Leeds SC was a 2020
Here's hoping the delays are due to fixes eh!

I test drove a 2020 P back to back with an LR. It was f**king quick...

Having read all the posts, Is Elon taking the P ? 😂
more than satisfied with an LR pinning me to the seat. It may lack half a second and 20mph top end but it’s still mighty quick.

Having driven all three, LR, LR+boost and P (all 2020s) here's my take...

  • Drive a LR for a while, add the boost & you notice it for a few days.

  • Drive a LR for a while then a P... you always notice the difference!

  • Drive a LR+boost for a while then a P... you always notice the difference off the line but both feel subjectively the same once moving, even if you floor it.
The 'kick' from the P is instant, it takes a fraction before it's noticed in the others (more with LR+boost than LR)

As an LR owner I take issue with your Escort 1600L analogy. The LR is clearly the XR3i to the P's RS2000. The SR+ is the 1600GL :)
I had a 1600Gl Escort but I’d forgotten the XR3i. By the time that was around I was riding a 650 Bonneville. They weren’t quick enough for me to see the badge on the back 😂

Why are people somehow assuming that the LR will not have the same low temperature and low SoC power as the P when they fit the new battery to that car? We may not have seen any yet in the UK, but they aren't going to keep having different batteries.

Indeed. First reports of an issue in Oct 20, it's now 7 months later and the number of complaints about this are increasing.

Not an "easy fix" after all !

The fix is easy, getting Telsa CEO to recognise the issue is much harder - just look at the auto wipers where they aren't an issue in California as it never rains there.
The use-case for the octovalve is incorrectly defined in sport mode - it should prioritise battery temperature for performance over efficiency, the current scenario should be for chill more only

Well you see what you want to see. 13 pages on the Tesla site of complaints, multiple threads in every Tesla forum and owners club (including here), Youtube videos,.... spreadsheets compiled, comparisons done.

I'm just glad the information was out there, would have been a massive disappointment for me otherwise.
I'm an expat in Denmark, so I've been lucky enough to have my 2021 M3P for a few weeks now - no long waits :) Before I bought it I did a lot of checking after watching Bjørn's videos and what surprised me was that there wasn't a lot of reliable information/data out there - sure there's his test(s) and a couple of other people posting some isolated figures, and of course LOADS of discussion/opinions, but very little what I would call evidence. I'm not saying it isn't an issue, but it surprised me that there weren't more detailed comparisons for an issue that could be so serious. Hundreds of '5 things I like/dislike about my Tesla' - some of which are very informative - but it would be good with a better balance between the video content. It's good that RSymons, CarWow (and a couple of Tesla Gurus vids) are now releasing some good comparisons content.
I posted last week that I got a 6.0 sec 0-100km with a 20% SOC in a car that had stood outside all night with 1 degrees outside temp after driving 2 kms. Today I did a few runs with a warm battery and 11 degrees temp. At 19% SOC I got several runs at 4.1 secs with a HP reading of between 380 and 415 from Teslalogger. At 14% I got 6.6 sec and 270 HP, and at 9% 7.1 sec and 234 HP - all figures with a stopwatch but erring on the side of caution. Luckily those are figures I can live with. It's not 0 degrees all year round and I'm not often driving with less than 20% SOC. If I start to worry about being faster than a LR, I can take comfort in the fact that for the majority of my driving I will be.
Anyway, for me it was what I felt was a better sorted chassis that swung it for me, and the fact that in Denmark the P is only approx. £3000 more than the LR. In fact the M3P is probably the only car in Denmark that is actually cheaper than its equivalent in the UK (by £2000)which is amazing if you live here - anyone for a standard BMW 520? -yours for the equivalent of £70,000 or an Audi RS6? -£215,000😲) - so a no brainer :)
