Perf+ includes a wider rim to accommodate the wider tire, so this does not make sense. The wider rim should cost more than the standard 21". Just not double.

Sorry, I was not clear: The Perf+ package does not include the upgrade from 19" to 21". This upgrade has to be ordered for being able to purchase the Perf+ package.

Where do you have this information from? It the Perf+ package is just the stiffer suspension and the going from 9,5inch to 10inch wheels $6500 would be a really, really expensive. If you look at BMW pricing here in Germany a M sportive suspension for a 5 Series is EUR450. And without wheels included this is essentially what the Perf+ would be then. I cannot believe that this is the case.

I'm also really upset about the Perf+ pricing for Signature Models as it seems to be right now.

The info is from Tesla. At a Norwegian forum the complete mail from Tesla has been pasted.

Edit: wasn't able to link the post in the thread, but here is the excerpt from the mail:

Your Signature Performance Reservation includes 21” wheels, therefore you only need to purchase the Performance Package for 36,700.00 NOK.

General Reservation Holders, need to purchase the 21” wheels first -22,250 NOK and after the Performance Package for 36,700.00 NOK if they want to upgrade.

I hope this helps and I remain available to hear if you wish to upgrade to one of the new options.

New info: their 'fix' seem to be that the Perf+ package do not include upgrade to 21" rims, only upgrade to the Michelin tires.

Nope, Michelin tires come standard with the 21" wheels in Europe, per the specs page. So the only thing you get from the P+ package except upgraded suspension is the upgrade to wider rear rims&tires. Not different tires. That is one seriously overpriced package and the only thing I'm not getting in addition to the shelf and rear facing seats.

+1 on the overpriced part. Could it be a mistake? NOK 36.700,- (USD 6500,-) for upgraded suspension? Seriously? (I assume the approx 1" wider rim and tire has very low extra cost)

I also cannot believe that. In addition this would also add a dependency on other options (if you want Perf+ you have to add 21 wheels) which hasn't been the case before. I doubt that with the couple of options you have today you'd want to introduce dependencies.

I'll try to find out if I can retrofit to my P85 and add only the suspension pieces. I'm ok with the normal rims. If anyone else knows, please let me know. thanks.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but going to the website and specing a P85 with the P+ option adds only $6500 to the price of the car and automatically changes the wheels to the 21". If what you said were true, wouldn't the price would be $10,000 more?

That is what Tesla are telling on the phone and by mail for the moment. Apparently the message from Musk is that there are an error on the US web that will be fixed. The latter part I have not seen in writing, though...

It's interesting if Tesla (once again) is treating the US and EU customers differently with regards to the 21" rims.

If that is the solutions than it is total BS!

when you add the package in the configurator in the USA it adds the 21" wheels (in place of the 19") and the costs are $6,500.

If this explanation is what Elon meant with we are fixing this than I would be truly disappointed/upset. Can not imagine this is their new "solution".

I adressed this in the post right above yours. Lets see if they will fix that or not.

Well the tires are different: The size changes from 245 to 265. making them a little wider.

Just heard that the retrofit is 9500 but doesn't include the dampers or the stabilizer bars! They will replace upper bushings and control arms. Also, they say part of the package are the larger wheels with PS2 tires and at this time we don't have the option of only adding specific parts of the package. Most of the cost is due to tires/wheels from what I can tell. Would be great if we could just get the control arms and bushings separately. Seems like a simple enough switch to me...

This makes me hesitate to get the P+ package:

1. Price
2. Increased treadwear? -> higher maintenance cost
3. More expensive rear tires -> higher maintenance cost
4. Reduced range due to general weight increase (suspension and rims) and higher rolling resistance?

Anyone able to estimate the range penalty due to the wider tires and therefore larger contact patch area which will potentially lead to higher rolling resistance?

I found this tire data calculator, but don't know the exact data on the tires for the Model S.

Just spoke with a very nice person from the UK who was following up on my email 'exchange' with Elon and the short story is, the configurator is wrong and will be updated.
You need to order 21' rims to have the Performance Plus option. They apologize for the mistake and explained how this came about and although I'm sure others won't be, I'm happy with the answer/call.

So you do not pay double and the only question you need to answer is are you willing to pay $6,500 (EUR 6,600) for the suspension and the wider rear rims and tires.

I am still waiting for a definitive answer, if 21" wheels are included or not. European Product Specialist says no. Tesla US Website suggests yes. Anybody has some more news here? Also does anybody know if 19" wheels are going to fit for Perf+ cars? I need them for winter.
I feel really stupid that it seems to be impossible to get a consistent answer out of Tesla. To me it somehow seems that Tesla Europe is seriously disconnected from HQ.

This is today's reply...

thank you for your e-mail.

The US Design Studio is showing the incorrect information and it will be fixed soon.

My previous message contain the right details.

I am happy to upgrade your order and to let you know that the price for the Security package is 2,000.00 NOK instead of 2.300.00 NOK as previously communicated.
