UPDATE as of 4/8/2013 - 7pm Eastern

Tesla just reversed their pricing decision for those of us who finalized under 2012 pricing with vehicles that are still open to order modifications who wish to add the performance plus package. Previously, Tesla had stated that while they would honor 2012 pricing, the performance plus package would still cost $6,500, effectively asking us to pay for 21" wheels twice (21" wheels were included in the 2012 performance package.) After a bunch of back and forth with Tesla today, I just received verbal and email confirmation that for those of us in this situation that the performance plus package can be added for a discounted price of $3,000. I've added it to my order.

If you're in this situation and had previously been told the plus package would be $6,500 and want the perf plus package, I'd call/email immediately. I'd like to say kudos to Tesla for coming up with a fair solution.

Andrew

Who did you talk to? they are still saying it is $6500 for the performance plus. I finalized under 2012 pricing. I have call four times already and spoke with different agents each time over configurations. They said they have not done any discounted price to anybody.

I don't want to share the name just yet, but I spoke with this person just now and indeed, it appears Tesla may be changing their mind yet again. Apparently the person who approved it yesterday may not have had the authority to do so. The matter has been escalated to Elon.

I'll wait before passing judgement, but suffice it to say that I will be very disappointed if they reverse the decision. It would be the 2nd commitment that Tesla has given me in writing (email) that they will have broken. I realize Tesla is going through growing pains, but earning back customer trust is very difficult. If for no other reason but to maintain customer trust, I hope they will honor the revised pricing. I say this as a customer and as shareholder.

I called (again) and they told me that although the price is no longer $6500 for 2012-price reservation holders, my car is too far along in the process and it's too late to update the configuration.
I called today again... They still say it's no way around paying the full option to upgrade, no discount.
After the call, I got this email:

Thank you for your time earlier on the phone.

Following-up our conversation by e-mail, if you would like to upgrade your Model S with a Performance Plus Package the price is of 36,700.00 NOK.
When booking a Signature the choice of the of options in not à-la-carte as the priority is to deliver the car as soon as possible to you and let you own the most unique car in the world.

We have added now the possibility to upgrade to these options, please let me know before Monday if there is any of those you are interested in.

I remain available for any information.

Kind Regards,

Andvib,

It cost the Signature contract owner € 3900,- more for the same package with the Perfomance+ deal ( You have to pay dubble for the 21"wheels ). As you said, thank you TESLA for the nice deal, you got 2 years interest of my € 30.000,-.
Thus if you can and want the Performance +, cancel the Signature and go for the Performance with the P+ deal.

I agree. In Europe, where Sig and Production cars are going to be delivered almost at the same time, the "only" thing you get for "lending" TSLA your reservation payment of 30.000 euros for years seems to be the option of the signature red color. I also find it disappointing that if I want P+, then I will have to pay for 21" rims twice.

I'm sending an email today to George Blankenship about this. I guess the more people to do this the better..:

I agree, very disappointing.

Here is what my product specialist responded when I asked about the paying twice for the wheels:
We shouldn't look at options costs and prices in the Signature Model S as it's not a pick and choose menu. Signature are unique and collector items that will become irreplaceable! The 21" wheels included in the Signature is a present that Tesla have made to our customers.

I hope you'll understand that we need your support to obtain success, and that your reservation and happiness means a lot for us, but we can't always give presents.

And here is my reply:
Disappointment among European signature reservation holders has been around for some time. We get nothing for our support but the option of Signature Red and the omission of a bunch of other colors. I'm sure that most reservation holders consider that more of a penalty. Now we have to pay twice for the 21" wheels if we would like the Performance+ tune.
If we consider the 21" wheels as a present, as you call it, why do we have to pay for this present if we want the P+?
Don't you want the signature holders to have the P+ package?
I want you to forward my opinion further up in the organisation.

I'm disappointed, both as a customer and a shareholder.

I can't figure out the rationale in their standing point. Can someone explain?

On the EU Signature, undelivered cars and Perf+ ...

I mailed Elon yesterday and he said they are in the process of fixing … Maybe we should cut them some slack, till date Tesla has always (in my eyes) been fair and this seems to be a communication glitch that is being addressed. As long as all is clear by friday so we can make the monday deadline...

I'm extremely impressed on how quick Elon responded and how approachable he is and with his response I trust all will be well...
(for those who paid for 21' rims that have not been delivered yet and want to upgrade to performance plus)

New info: their 'fix' seem to be that the Perf+ package do not include upgrade to 21" rims, only upgrade to the Michelin tires.

Did you receive any info in your mail from Elon stating otherwise?

Perf+ includes a wider rim to accommodate the wider tire, so this does not make sense. The wider rim should cost more than the standard 21". Just not double.
