If the optional phone dock in your Model S or X doesn't charge, the root cause is that the charge port doesn't stick out far enough. If you have a phone case as most of us do, it doesn't have enough reach to make contact.
There is simple fix for this issue. You just add a small piece of thick tape on the back of the charge cable head (see photo). That enables the securing tab to push the charge port sufficiently forward to make contact with your phone.
I used 3M double sided tape for its thickness, but I retained the red seal, as I only need adhesive on one side.
