Phone walk away locking now working

I have been having problems with my Android phone randomly not providing a walk away lock and approach unlock on my M3P for some months. Now it seems to work every time even with the app NOT running in the background, which had been recommended as a solution. I presume a fix has been applied during recent updates as nothing has changed my end.

Has anybody noticed this change?

No, mine has worked without issue all along. I have it running in background/in notification shade.
