Due to the pricing structure of the Model 3, I now need to consider a Model 3 without the glass roof. However, we don't have that great an idea of what that might look like except for a few early Photoshop attempts. They weren't bad, but now we have real production car pictures and know the colors and wheel options.

So, is anybody willing to do some quick Photoshop magic for the production Model 3 with the metal roof? I'd be interested to see a metal roof on a Model 3 with Black or Midnight Silver paint with the aero wheels. I think these colors might actually pull off the metal roof the best. I'd also be interested to see the metal roof on lighter colors like Silver and Pearl White.

    Thanks in advance!
    Paul

Do we even know if the metal will be body-color? Model S metal roofs were at times body color and at times were all black in color.

Good point. I think it would make sense to have them all black instead of body color. That would blend in more with the rear window.

the metal roof rendering above is looking pretty good... we never pull the cover back to use our sun roof as it is now, so an all glass roof is definitely something we can live without.

Will the rear window still be tinted, or will my toddler be cooking/not able to nap back there?

I think it looks like crap, lol. It's such a small section that it just looks out of place. That rear window is soooo overpowering in comparison. IMO to look good it should go to about where the back doors roll down glass ends away from the driver.

It looks like a handle to pick the car up with.

At least it's easier for the un-trained to find the lifting point instead of those pads beneath the car.

"Just pick it up by the handle to change the tires."

But how often will you be looking at the roof from this angle? It is not a natural angle to view the car from. If it went back further that would totally defeat the purpose of the large rear window design to increase rear headroom.

Your render clearly illustrates (to me at least) how out of place a metal roof would look breaking up the beautiful expanse of glass provided by the windshield and rear window. A black metal roof may look slightly better from the outside, but still offers no improvement from the occupants' POV vs. glass.

I agree, I was just saying that it would look much better on the outside.

My bet is that the metal roof will be black. I just hope the contrast with the tinted glass won't make it still look out of place.

Really? Looks very weird to me. As others have suggested, it will at least have to be painted gloss black to be acceptable.

I think it looks good with the roof color matching the body.
