Construction outside Philadelphia, PA on I-95: (
One pothole, two tire blisters. Barely 1000 miles on the tires. There's just not enough sidewall protection on these to hit a small pothole at 65 mph.

I have nightmares about this... sorry this happened to you. Main reason I don't use autopilot is the low profile tires and the New England roads are terrible. I used to try and grab the wheel and avoid the potholes but the car fights back and you end up swerving like a maniac. I've trained my self to bang the drive stock up and takeover instead now.

I live in philly too as soon as I picked up my M3P 2 weeks ago I quickly swapped to 18 Tsportline TST wheels. A pain in the wallet to replace those tires and wheels!

Is there a difference in those tires and the aero wheels for the SR+? SR+ owners, do the aero wheels handle potholes better?

Yes because the sidewall is taller on the 18" wheel/tire combo and it absorbs the impact better.
Correct.
18's vs 20's is a tradeoff... 18's drive more compliant on crappy roads but sporty handling and steering response is lesser. 20's offer tighter steering and better cornering but are somewhat louder and prone to damage. For areas like the northeast with poor roads I'd definitely opt for 18's.

The original plan was to downsize to 19". It was a matter of finding a used set of wheels in the region, powdercoat them and put on all-weather tires, but I found a set of TST wheels with Pirelli Sotozero III winter tires, so the stock 20" Uberturbines will stay on the car for the warmer months.

I'm going with 245/35/20 Vredestein Ultrac Vorti R. The 10 extra mm will help put a little more sidewall on the tire to minimize curb rash and hopefully some extra protection from potholes. I'd rather put a 255mm tire on the 20x9" but I'm not sure how the traction and stability control will handle the taller 255/35/20 circumference.

and 18s don’t even look that bad!

19s and 20s looks real good but honestly the 18s don’t even look all that bad. You get better range vs 19/20s, comfortable suspension, and ideally your car is slightly faster due to reduce unsprung mass. Sorry I don’t have a better picture but just wanted to show the gap isn’t all that bad with it not being lowered.
