Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

But it is my intention to say how awesome they are and screw little camber. Big front camber is necessary

That's exactly what I did. I like Low. (Yes, it's all about the looks, lol)

The Model S has quite a bit of toe change under compression, namely toe-out under compression (which is an odd choice for sure). If you spend time driving in the low settings, you'll be more likely to experience this type of wear.

For sure. You'd normally expect toe-in under compression for stability while accelerating, but for whatever reason, not in this case. Our trailing arm kit includes spacers to correct the bump steer and allow for more predictable behavior.

Similar to everyone else on this thread, the tires had a slow leak. Brought to America’s tire and they found the inner part is shredding.

Either Michelin or Tesla should do a recall. This seems to be a very widespread issue and both parties seem to be aware of them. Or, are they just waiting for a class action?

I’m just on about 14k miles. This is simply ridiculous!

Exactly what it says. The tire is showing the same inner tire wear that every other 21" tire shows

O ya this will end up being a recall issue in the near future. Save any receipts if you had to pay for repairs and/or new tires. Take photos too; should be reimbursed when Tesla has to fix this eventually.

Exactly. It's the alignment. THAT BEING SAID, I personally do not know how these OEM supply deals are made. Maybe Michelin reviewed and approved the Model S rear suspension geometry and agreed to supply their tire with their warranty. So as to whose fault it is, not sure.

Micheline DID honor my warranty claim and paid 75% of a replacement set. My hat is off to them. Tesla told me to piss off.

Any tire with camber will start to show wear on the inside. Not all tires will tear between the tread and inner sidewall with tread left. You can’t possibly know that your new tires will fail in the same way.

I just had OEM sized PZero Winters installed. They checked alignment and all was still within spec. I keep at 42-44psi. What am I going to see as these tires wear?

UPDATE.

I am pleased to report that an engineer from Michelin has been in contact, I suspect this is a result of this and other threads.

QUESTION:

Has anyone that has already had to replace a Model S tires due to tread separation kept their old tires? Mine are "getting there" but are nowhere near as bad as what has been documented in the many photographs here.

If so, please DM so that I may forward your contact info to a Michelin field engineer ASAP.

If you are one of those to soon replace your tires, PLEASE consider keeping the delaminated tire for possible inspection by Michelin.

Second, if you don't keep the old tires, please at least post photographs of your bad tires.
