Plaid+ to Plaid conversion

I got a call from two weeks ago asking me to convert to a Plaid from Plaid+, this was before the Plaid+ was "canceled". I told them that no, I didn't want to cancel and go for the Plaid because the real-world range with performance wheels and tires is much lower than the rated range. I also told them that the projected 1-year wait for the Plaid+ was in "Elon-musk-years" which are kind of like "dog-years", only not.

Now they have "canceled" the Plaid+, and even though I think they will eventually produce that car I might consider switching to the Plaid. The problem is that doing so would cost me $10k more than it would have cost me had Tesla never announced the Plaid+ in the first place.

Tesla should offer Plaid+ reservation holders the option to convert their reservation to a Plaid order based on the pricing at the time they placed their Plaid+ order.

As it is, Tesla is charging me $10k for their own unreliability. That. Is. Insane.

The only compensation for Tesla's incompetence is "priority" on delivery of a Plaid, but if I go to their website, they offer June delivery of a Plaid anyway.

I strongly encourage Plaid+ reservation holders to not cancel their reservations and to refuse to downgrade to the Plaid unless Tesla converts the reservations based on the pricing at the time their reservation was made. I believe the reason Tesla has not already refunded and canceled the Plaid+ reservations is that those reservations have legal standing, don't cancel your reservation.

I agree I am also a plaid + reservation holder from battery day announcement. It was always reserved originally as plaid s there was no plaid + back then. So We should at-least get the price for Plaid S when the name change happened so we can get the 120k price at-least.

I want tesla to do that as well let me know how it goes. i am not going to cancel my reservation for plaid +

I was lucky and ordered mine a day before they did the $10k increase, and got them to stick to the $8k vs $10k for the FSD. It’s a real tragedy that they treat their Plaid+ reservation holders this way. We are, by far, their most loyal and profitable customers.

For those of you that are converting your order from Plaid+ to Plaid, take a close look at your updated Order Agreement.

Below the Destination and Doc fee, is there an Order Fee of $100 or $1000?

It seems Tesla is creating a fee equal to your deposit. Your purchase price just increased by that much so now your deposit is no longer paying down the price of your car.

I also was called and not told anything about the Plaid+ cancellation and I declined. In fact, I had two Plaid+'s ordered. Today I was emailed about both Plaid+'s and instructed to proceed with my order. I responded to the email and went to the website to cancel the orders, which I did but the !@#$%^&*s are trying to keep the deposits totaling $2K. Anyone else run into this?

Thanks for the advice Robinette, Check out my post below, I canceled because with the Plaid+ "canceled," I figure it's over unless one wants the non-+. That's what "canceled" means right? Apparently not in Musk World vis a vis the deposit. I already have taken delivery a Porsche Taycan 4S and am awaiting my Porsche Taycan 4S Gran Turismo. I think I'm finally done with Musk's suck and jive. Not that other, better, luxury cars are here or very close to here (in real time, not Musk time), I think I'm done with Tesla. I don't drive anywhere for more than 3 hours straight so charging at a 350KW station is just fine. I understand though that some people really want to be able to drive 5 hours without stopping.

It's unfortunate but the killer product Tesla has is their supercharger network, not their cars. The charging infrastructure in the US just isn't there yet. Only some chargers are 50 Kw/hr at the most (Chademo), and the majority are 15 Kw/hr. A 6 hour drive 360 miler drive in an ICE car turns into a 12 hour drive with the Tesla in the winter, cause you have to charge it twice to get the distance.

That being said, I'll be ordering my Plaid Model S (if I ever do at this point) from a user, and not Tesla direct.

Yeah, what's this bullshit $1,000 "order fee"? I'm showing $1,200 docs/destination and then some arbitrary $1,000 order fee, as if one should pay a fee for the privilege of ordering a car? That order fee effectively eats up the deposit. Tesla, please stop disappointing us loyal customers with BS.

This is utter bullshit. All of it. I take winter road trips all the time.

My $1000 "order fee" changed to $100, and my SA confirmed that FSD price will return to $8000. It seems like it's constantly in flux, but ultimately coalescing into what it should be. I'm just going to let it change until it's closer to delivery, then have any inaccuracies corrected then.

Tesla converted my Plaid+ reservation to Plaid without telling me. They kept the original reservation price sort of, but also selected the interior decor as carbon fiber since that was the only option for the Plaid+. It took many attempts to talk to an order specialist last week and today to change that to walnut without charging me $10k to make the change. I told them if I had made a Plaid reservation instead originally, I would have selected walnut and that I should be given a choice since it was not me who changed the reservation. It’s still being reviewed by Tesla. I was told the original FSD price of $8k would be honored despite what my account now says. This will be my 4th Tesla: Roadster 2.5, P85DL, Model X RR performance.

Were you able to get anything changed without the 10k price increase? I too want to change from carbon fiber to wood and from 19” to 21” and avoid the base price increase but will just leave it if I have to. I don’t have a SA so not sure who best to call to ask about this (as well as the 10k to 8k FSD adjustment and 1k order fee on top of doc and destination). Thanks!

The $1000 order fee should resolve itself and the $2k FSD discount I was told will be taken when you sign at delivery. Aside from that, you can either call your favored SC and press the number for sales, or call the order info number you see in your account when you click on your order than hit the Manage button - they should be able to help you with that.

hope to see more plaids in NJ soon!

As an addendum to my last post - now that we’re past EOQ push and 19” wheels are rumored to go into production in a week or two, I’d only make these changes if they’re your preference - they might not make any difference in getting your car sooner like they did earlier.

Thanks! I do want to get the 21s but I’m now back on the fence with wood vs. carbon fiber. Wood in theory could mean July delivery while CF still says September. Not that I need it sooner but you know how it goes. I’m truly on the fence between wood and CF regardless of timing though.
