Caution: Plasti-dip is addictive. lol

That grey color is spot on. I really like it. if i left the OEM wheels on my X, that would have looked nice.

are you guys using dipyourcar kit or something off the shel? Dip your car has nice tutorial on how to do wheels and you can use plastic shopping bags to cover the breaks and leave them on the car look easy but we in a cold spell over in vA so going to wait to do this.

Looks great !! Did you take the wheels off to spray or did you leave the wheels on ?
Against my better judgement I left them on after watching how to videos. but now I realize it was super easy to leave them on. Next time I rotate my tires I will probably spray the interior portion of the rims.
I did tape around the rubber portion of the tire. I didn’t ha e good lunch scraping off overspray from the first wheel. Few extra minutes is all.

Thanks for the info - much appreciated !! I bought a wheel kit from DipYourCar to change my wheels to a brass-bronze color and have been debating on whether or not to remove the wheels. I think I'll spray the dip on the wheels while they are still on the car as you did. It's been in the low 30's here and I'm waiting for the weather to warm a bit before starting the project.....

The plasti dip spray cans are meant to be held at 90degree angle so if you take your wheels off the car don’t lay them down and spray. it is better to leave them on the car when you dip.

Another tip on the dip your car website was put the can in a bowl of room temp water for 10-15 minutes before spraying. They seem to swear by this and say it’s quite important. i did it for all my cans. Can’t say what good it did since I didn’t experiment without doing it.
IMO you can lay wheels flat and turn your can at different angle s if you need to for a brief moment BUT I would caution that you don’t always get an even flow and spray pattern in my experience. I did mine ON the car but occasionally turned can sideways to try and spray upwards to get some of the underside areas and if I Held it too long it sprayed “splotches” and not so even. they suggest when your done for the day with an unfinished can to turn it upside down and hold the sprayer top until only expels air and no material. That way it’s stored and ready for next time without drying and clogging the spray tip. I found this helpful after I about ruined a half finished can.

I've been watching all of Fonzie's videos on YouTube, so I'm ready to start when the weather warms a bit. I also purchased their new version spray nozzles, that supposedly spray more evenly. I know for the DipYourCar kits, I'm supposed to use the full can for each wheel, so I'll see how many coats I get..

I’m so glad you posted this thread. I considered doing one. just did my wheels this last week. I’m so impressed with this product and the ease at which this went on.
I had researched powder coat as well as new wheels and I figured for $30 bucks what have I got to lose. turned out superb IMO.
I used “graphite” color without the glossifier but am considering it. BTW I actually used the Rustoleum version of this NOT Plasti-dip name.

Do you have a performance model S? I ask because you have red calipers which I thought only came with P models?
