Dear members,

May I please ask for some advice?

I will receive my MS in few weeks but I'm already planning to change my 19" slipstream with some 21".
Roads are very nice here in western Europe so I'm not worried at all bending a rim on a pothole.

My criteria : weight / look / price.
Only flow form ones are in my budget as I do not want to put 2000€ in a single rim.

The car is deep blue metallic.

Not very easy to get all the US major brands here.
I am looking at these Breyton :

Breyton Topas - staggered
9x21 5x120 ET31 72.6 [12.1Kg = 26,7 lbs]
9.5x21 5x120 ET31 72.6 [12.1Kg = 26,7 lbs]

vs

Breyton Facinate - Square
9x21 5x120 ET35 72.6 [11.6Kg = 24.2 lbs] --> 0.5kg lighter !

Both of the Breyton in 21" are lighter than the factory 19".

Questions :

  • Hyper silver or gun matt?
  • Topas or Facinate?
  • Will it be strange if I go square with the Facinate as I only have 9x21 and 10.5x21

245 on a 10.5 will stretch the tire to its extreme. I won't do it.
20" are not possible as the law here is very clear : nothing but the dimensions stated in the Tesla book.

Any opinion?

Hi ddawson,

Regulations are very strict here and insurance will not cover in case of accident if tires are not the exact same as the ones coming of from factory.

So only 19 and 21.
I have checked and will go with Michelin Pilot sport 4 or conti 5p.
I have good choices but can’t put 295 in the rear.

So I have gathered some info regarding weight of the different wheels and here is a quick summary :

We see that the Breyton are doing very well for 21".
Only the TSS forged wheels in 19" are doing better.

The mileage should improve a bit compared to the current 19" slipstream.

Based on weight alone? What makes you think any of these wheels with a larger profile (Form Drag) and wetted surface area have lower aerodynamic drag than a smaller wheel designed by Tesla for the specific application?

I vote for Fascinate. Topaz may look better on a luxury car, but its too busy IMHO. The Model S is plenty sporty to pull of the more sporty look of the Fascinate.

I would go with gunmetal color.

What color is your car?
