Plug-in car Grant now £3000 (was £3500) for cars under £50k

I'd say it's worth checking with Tesla on inventory cars? Not sure if a grant can be applied before actually sold but you never know.... Or arguably, you could purchase a car before midnight tonight and cancel if you can't get the grant.....

PIVG User Guidance Manual said:
3.10 A grant is not guaranteed until the vehicle has been validated through the portal. However, provided that the vehicle is registered within 9 months from the date the order is made, any claim placed on the system for a specific customer will be guaranteed to benefit from the grant at the level advertised at the time the claim is made.

Hence, in my understanding, Tesla can't enter the vehicle into the portal until they have the contract and the customer details for that contract. ie once the Documentation has been filled in by the buyer. Hence Inventory cars wouldn't help unless we had a few more days grace.

I am sure Tesla will have registered with the portal soon after geting the customer details -- however:

PIVG User Guidance Manual said:
3.9 We recognise that some manufacturers have long lead times and in this case the order should be started as soon as a ‘contract’ has been signed with the customer.

If for some reason they didn't register quickly, it could be argued that they were negligent in their duties. !

The whole thing is more like Indiana Jones grabbing his hat before the trap door slams down!
I ordered a Model X from Inventory at 16:00 tonight, before I knew anything about the change to the grant or Tesla pulled all the stock off their website - I completed all the paperwork shortly afterwards so will be interesting (to say the least) to see if that one got in under the trap door...

I think you will find delivery fee gets counted as part of list so LR list is actually £51490.so tesla would have to drop £1500 to get under 50k

Ah I see what you mean thanks for pointing that out.

Do leasing companies get discounts from car companies like Tesla? or do they pay the RRP like everyone else?

Ok, quicker update than I was expecting, my sales contact in Bristol has replied to me to say that he is on the case and will put it on the portal when he gets home shortly - restores your faith and all of that! :D:D:D

Only the cost of the Number Plate.
The Delivery fee, and optional extras are explicitly excluded.
So the price is £50,500 + about £25 for Number Plates . --edited !!!

PIVG User Guidance Manual said:
3.2 The plug-in vehicle grant will be taken off the purchase price of the vehicle. For private, business, fleet or demonstration models this means the actual price paid by the customer, including any discount, not the recommended retail price.
This definition of purchase price includes:
• Number plates
• Vehicle excise duty
• VAT (as applicable)
And excludes:
Any optional extras
Delivery charges
• First registration fee.

£50,500

typo and I can't edit once posted. grrr Not even a couple of minutes grace!
Where does that come from? I assumed it would be the same as for BIK which is:
"list price including optional extras, VAT and delivery charges"
I assumed PIG would be the same but typical govt if they have multiple definitions.
BTW you can edit posts for ages afterwards
If delivery is excluded tesla can just raise that and drop the list price

hmm so thats interesting wording though...

"For private, business, fleet or demonstration models this means the actual price paid by the customer, including any discount, not the recommended retail price."

Does that not mean if your leasing it should be possible to get the £3000 as the finance you apply for is only for the cost of the term of the lease and not for the full purchase price of the car, or am mis-interpreting that?

No because a lease is technically a fleet car. The fleet owner will have to pay full price and will pass it down

Impossible to say, they probably get a discount from other manufacturers for buying in bulk, but with Tesla there is such high demand I’d doubt they get anything off

From speaking to fleet firms they don’t get any discount from Tesla.
