    Hi all,

The last few months have seen us work very hard at PlugSurfing. Not only have we introduced electric vehicle trip mapping across Europe and our customisable
    PlugSurfing widget
(Plugsurfing - The EV-Charging Community), but now we have increased our charging point database to 13,000 international charging points and
    today we launch on Android!

Android download: Plugsurfing UK - Apps on Android Market
iPhone download: App Store - Plugsurfing UK

Enjoy using the apps and Happy Christmas to all of you!

    You run your own database?
Any way to link up your app with openchargemap.org?

    Hi Volker

This is certainly something we would not rule out, if the opportunity arose. At present, we collect a lot of data ourselves and we additionally work with many centralised open source projects across Europe. It will be very interesting to see what happens in the new year in the UK as more centralised registers emerge such as the UK's National Charge Point Register. This is an exciting time for EV and for EV innovators, and nothing should be ruled out!

Have you cleaned your database yet to remove the data from ev-network's private members that ended up in your database?

    Hi Andrew,

All queries regarding our data are dealt with asap. We currently provide access to 13000 charging points and all of this data comes from public or authorised sources. We have some exciting plans for the future too, so watch this space!

I'm still waiting for an explanation of how you came to publish my private data.... as is the owner of EV-Networks.

You have been saying this for months... if you are serious about open data then stop talking and start doing...

What we are serious about is creating the best apps and services for EV drivers, and this is our aim for 2012. We are not currently convinced that open data is always the best way to do that. Certain open platforms work very well, OCM in the UK is a great example, and good ones can also be found in Holland and Norway. This trend also seems to be gaining momentum with several centralised lists in different parts of the world being unveiled next year. We, however, could not be completely committed to open data until we were sure this was right for us. This is why we will not rule it out, but rather we'll take great interest in how the EV world develops.

We already have 100+ sites with similar ambition... why not mark yourself out as different and join the open data revolution and become part of the solution rather than the problem?

Kevin, I am genuinely interested in your opinion here. What future do you see for the National Chargepoint Registry? Could this also solve some of the problems you percieve, or will it not solve anything?

POD Point who have been awarded the contract to develop the National Charging Station registry have approached OpenChargeMap with a view to working together. We will do everything possible to ensure that data remains free and open for all.

POD Point are a commercial business and IMO this project will die the moment the Government funding stops...
