Polish after ceramic coating

After a few dozen car washes, my car has inevitably incurred some fines scratches and swirls. If I have some polish out the scratches, will I have to reapply the ceramic coating?

Logically, of course. Apply coating to surface -> do abrasive thing to surface -> coating is abraded and needs to be reapplied
