This poll directly relates to why my wife and I have been resistant to being upsold from the 3.
The 3 will be able to handle 90-95% of the driving we do. Vacations to hotels? No problem. Trips to her parents' place? No problem. Me going camping by myself? No problem. Me going out to do astrophotography and camping? Probably a little tight, but still doable.
Both of us going camping? Highly unlikely with the 3. With the dog? Not possible with the 3. With the dog and my astrophotography equipment? Not even possible without the cartop carrier on our CR-V, let alone a smaller sedan.
Any time I talk to someone from Tesla about getting an X, she and I sit down and go through the numbers and possible uses again. A bottom end X comes in at the top of our affordability scale, but would still only be good for about 98% of driving. That last case listed above is something we do every so often, and there's no way I'm getting a car at the top of our affordability scale unless it can be used 100% of the time. We'd need the 100 kWh battery, more than 5 seats if we want to take family and friends on a trip, and want EAP features. Those are requirements for a 100% use vehicle, and unfortunately put the X we want off scale.
The 3 will do very nicely for nearly everything at first. We'll keep the CR-V, and in a few years, look into the Y or a used X. That may be more explanation than you were looking for, but it's why I didn't choose an unqualified "Yes". I sure look forward to heading into Yosemite and the Eastern Sierras in the 3, though.
