Porsche Taycan Sport Turismo Electric Wagon Spied Winter Testing

Say what? A wagon version of the Porsche Taycan. That’s right. Porsche has committed to developing several versions of the electric Taycan and one is the wagon seen here. This isn’t the Porsche Cross Turismo concept, which is an off-roady version of the Taycan. What we see here is a proper wagon. This Turismo version brings with...

I was basically sold, when I read wagon and electric.

I know, wagons aren't as popular in the US and they aren't getting popular by the year, like CUVs do, but I don't need something that looks like it can drive through a slightly wet field of grass. I just want to put a lot of stuff in the back of my car.

I would also really like a Model 3 performance wagon, but I guess Tesla is too American to do something like that...

Demand would go through the roof in Europe. A good leaver to pull. Especially before the competition.*
Just like it would be smart to design a lengthened version of say the 3 and X for China.
But Model Y has to be the priority, this is the hottest segment globally.

Incidentally, the German marques have really perfected the method of building many versions of the same car cost efficiently.

Station wagons are disappearing… but wait, there’s hope
...
European sales make up the biggest part of station wagon global demand. Last year, 72% of station wagons sold in the world remained on European roads. Although they have lost some share during the last 15 years, station wagons have generally managed to handle the SUV invasion well thanks to their strong position in Scandinavia (where they represent 23% of total registrations) and Germany, Europe’s biggest market.

There is an excellent Qwest Tesla P90D Estate available in GB and abroad if a body shop specialising in Carbon Fibre would like to offer it?
However Tesla Ted the Labradoodle

is not for sale!

Looks really cool, but I guess it’s pretty expensive to rebuild a car like that. You also probably loose all the warranty...

Still a great project!

Yea, sadly Tesla has to put their development budget elsewhere.

Europe isn’t their strongest market and I guess even a long wheelbase version of their vehicles would make more sense, since that’s what the Chinese like.

But hey, Porsche and Audi are probably going to build them on the J1. That’s a choice of two electric wagons! More than I would have hoped for!

Warranty intact after inspection by Tesla to see we have used certified and tested components that pass all European and USA specifications. There is a Fully Charged Youtube series in two parts detailing its construction that is worth seeing. Ted the dog features extensively as it was for him the modifications were made! As it was a one off it was expensive but now we have the moulds and design work complete, reproducing it is not difficult or particularly expensive.
It is the fastest accelerating Station Waggon (Estate) anywhere I believe?

I want a Model 3, with a wagon’s back. Not something that looks like an overweight Model 3.

Americans mostly just do not understand the enormous appeal that wagons of all kinds have in Europe.
And that's OK if you have no plans to enter the automotive market here or have given up trying to compete successfully.
Build things that make people want to part with their money should be easy to understand, though.
Someone will usually do it sooner or later.

American families usually have more than one vehicle. They don't need a wagon when they also have a pickup/van/minivan/SUV in the garage. There is also a general perception that hatchback is not formal enough. People want a formal notchback seden (or even a SUV) to drive to certain occasions. Chinese I understand are not too hot on wagon too. To make something for at best 1/3 of the market is not worthy of the effort at this point of the company. It could be a lever to use in the future but Tesla likely won't be needing that for a long while.
